Name that tune?

edited July 2007 in Games
Chaps am needing your help.

Chuckie Egg (the death tune )and Pheenix (which is the same tune in the Arcade game) have the same short ditty. I'm sure it's a piece of classical music by one of our great composers. I'd be very thankful if you could help with the name and composer of it, if that is what it is. I'm starting to doubt myself and think that the original tune is engrained into my memory from a mispent youth at the local arcades. :)

Out of memory because I haven`t played these games in a few years, it was Romanza, or Romance. A traditional Spanish folk tune. Anonymous composer.
It was the first piece I learned to play on classical guitar as a nipper.
I can write up the sheet music of the entire piece if you want it.

Cheers mate. No need to worry about the sheet music, muchos gracias, I am recording it via vst stuff for a remake of it and I was just looking for a few versions of it to get some different perspectives on it before tackling it myself. Not that I'm any form of muso, but if the midi existed, I could easily do a synthy remix :)

Just knocked this up in about 30 seconds with Guitar Pro, this is the right tune?
    Romanza Midi

Note: this is only the first part of the tune, the second part changes to major (happy) tone.

Now that is excellent and the very one mate. Typical that I relook at the forum here after I try it myself :D.

If you don't mind, I may still use yours.

    Cheers again

    Yeah me too.
It gets more complicated to play after the first 16 bars or so.

Here it is again, but more than 30 seconds spent on it. I made up an intro.
I`ll do the second part tomorrow.
    Romanza ver 2
Feel free to use it, my intro and all if you like it.

The second part included in this, I prefer the first part, the 2nd part is too jolly for my taste.

Right, I've tinkered aways and remixed it somewhat to suit the feel of the game a little more. I've not finished them, but this is the general state that they are in :)

    phoenix3

I like the sound of what you done there, it is very sombre.

I've played the guitar for years and I gave up even contemplating playing stuff like that - my poor old fingers would melt. Thankfully I discovered drop d tuning and a Marshall amp. :D

Thankfully I started playing as an infant on my dad's full size classical, as I grew it got easier and easier. So now I can play anything I want. Mind you I'm starting to struggle sometimes on the stretch from 3rd fret bottom E to 8th fret top E in Antonio Lauro's Natalia, my hands are getting less flexible so long stretches take more time to stretch the hand. Either that or a touch of tendernitis or whatever its called.
I was going to try an ambient guitar version. I have a neglected TC Electronic G-System gathering dust.

I've got a shot of one of those cheapy Yamaha digital guitars. The best thing about it is the fact that the sound quality is only limited by your own sound card and I've got one of those Audiophile cards, so the latency is ace.

It's amazing what you can do with one of them and they bring a whole new perspective to playing styles.

TBH at the end of the day, I failed at any attempt to be a virtuoso, but I did find my playing style amongst that :) :-

Regardless, of genres I still lay my "limited" musical roots down to the tunes of the Speccy.

I think my musical style has changed every year. When I was younger it was all about speed and aggression. As I got older, a sort of self production happened whereby I started to choose to hold back from widdling and play more in keeping with whoever I was playing with. Then the nuances were emphasised for articulating more vocal/emotional qualities like string bends, slides, vibrato, staccato etc. Once I could do all the techniques fluently, I started teaching, which meant having to learn about musical theory. Because I taught myself, I teach in the way I taught myself, giving out a colour coded A minor pentatonic scale diagram of the neck and all the chords in three keys labelled with numerals. All the A minor pentatonic notes(dots) in red with root notes black circled, 3rds (c note) have an 'X', D# blues notes in blue. Then its a simple matter to teach modes just by adding the f# and b notes for a dorian (jazzy/sad), or f# and c# for mixolydian with the 'X' notes used as passing notes (blues/happy), or f and b for minor (sad/sad).

That's really good that - reminds me of early Satriani.

I can`t bear to listen to stuff that I`ve done and is still fresh in my memory, hence the old track. It was supposed to be for a Miami Vice inspired game (that was the memo title for the session). It was never used, they didn`t think it suitable, and I never saw the game or new what it was called or what system it was meant for. So I still retain the copyright on this track. I wasn`t very experienced back then for writing character music (film music/themes).

99% of the stuff I've done doesn`t belong to me so I can`t distribute it, and 90% of that I have no copy of or don`t know what happened to it or where it was used. Session work is musical slavery/prostitution, unless you can afford to gamble on royalties(retain copyright) instead of money in the pocket.(give away copyrights).

  • Thanks for the thread bump, I've been wondering if that ditty in Pheenix was a classical piece or not. It just seemed too catchy to be a short intro tune.
  • Its one of those tunes that always gets played on TV for certain 'atmospheres'.
    Sod it!
