Final Fantasy, the piles of crap that they are (yes, I can't stand the games if you hadn't noticed!), don't follow the same sequel system you would expect (a bit like Quake. Quake 2 was only called that because of the engine, and the next "sequel" was Quake 4).

Each game is a different story, there is usually a character named Sid (just like in the film too), but they are seperate stories not linked to each other AFAIK.

    ah that clears it up.

just seemed a bit wierd, i mean zelda games dont particulaly follow on, but all the same characters are in them.

That's basically right, although it's Cid not Sid :-P

Anyways, every major FF game (FF, FFII, FFIII etc up[ to the current FFXII) are all seperate entities, unconnected to each other (although some things do appear in the different games under slightly different guises/names etc).

But there are a few official sequels. Final Fantasy X-2 (no, not another name for FFXII) is a direct sequel to FFX (hence the -2 part).

There are also direct prequels/sequels to FFVII (Dirge of Cerberus (game), Advent Children (film), Crisis Core (mobile phone game?)).

The first film FF: Spirits Within was completely seperate to all the games aswell with the exception that the planet was made from Gaia which is one of the main plot points in FFVII (that's where the materia came from).
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Thought you were talking about those cool books, eg if you want to turn left turn to page 320, if you want to turn right go to 180.

I had a trip down memory lane and bought books 1-20 the other year. Very cool they were then.

Heres some names from the past...

Forest of Doom, Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Citadel of Chaos.

    Those were the days ;)

Interestingly enough, the strange desire to re-read the Adrian Mole books came over me yesterday (I haven't looked at them for many years) so I flicked through a couple of pages and childhood memories came rushing back. :) I plan on reading them completely during the next couple of weeks. :)

Oh and the Grailquest books were better than the Fighting Fantasy ones. They were funnier anyway. 8)

Well this thread is an omen, I was thinking about Finally playing these games as from day 1 of them being about, I've avoided them like the plague. I've had a ROM of Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls for the GBA (which is basically 1 and 2 in a single pack with a Bestiary for both games, which I assume just tells you about the monsters you've killed?) for about 2 years now and still avoided it.

But after contemplating playing through it last night, and today and seeing this thread I'm finally going to play through them. Then I guess I'll go looking for 3, 4, 5, 6, and all the way up to 27 and a half or whatever it's up to now. An awful lot of sequels for a Final Fantasy don't you think.
    Every night is curry night!
