Chess players. Can one castle after check?

edited August 2007 in Chit chat
I've been playing a bit of chess on Vista, and on x-box live recently, first time in a long time. Can one castle after being checked, if the king or rook hasn't been moved? I always thought it wasn't allowed, but it is in these progs.

Am I mistaken, is it allowed?

I'm 81% certain its allowed, as long as neither the king or the rook have moved.

you can still castle, but not to get out of check.
i.e., if you were in check, and blocked the check and didn't move the king or rook you can castle after that. if you are in check you can't castle to get out of check

    that's what I learnt anyway

I imagine it's a legal move if it gets the king out of check, but I'm not entirely certain.

    Rules for castling:

Neither the King nor Rook can have moved already.
The King must not be in check, end up in check or pass through check whilst castling.

Vista's chess game is pretty good and definitely gets these rules right.

You cannot castle your way out of check, but you can castle is the king has been in check previously.

He'll be asking about En Passant next tsk!
    Oh bugger!<br>

Heres the basic rules about when you can castle:

    * All the squares between your king and rook are unoccupied.
    * The king has not moved yet
    * The rook involved in the castle has not moved yet
    * The king is not in check
    * The king will not move into check
    * The king will not move through a square being attacked
