Rubbish games that your mates LOVED!

edited August 2007 in Games
A friend of mine absolutely adored, 'Rapid Fire' by Mastertronic

http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0004028

Blimey, he dragged us in to see this badly drawn, hobbling like a cripple, General Zod look-a-like with a stick that was meant to be a gun and said, 'Wow, look what I've just bought!'

Erm, yeah...Brilliant.

He also redefined playing keys as U=Up D=Down L=Left R=Right F=Fire and studied the keyboard to find the key he needed to make his move.

Great days.

Match Day !.. Still cant work that one out. ALL my mates used to sit in big groups playing huge long sessions, but I was like.. " Thats not football man ! Thats walk around like Grandad Ball"

    Hated it :D

I do like a good footy game though.. but for me not much existed before Sensi :)

My cousin used to like playing a lot the budget crap that I'd bought, can't really think of any specicic titles but I know he always used to bitch at me cos' I was playing something else. I remember I've posted the pinscratch story on another thread, where he wanted to play something else and threatened to pinscratch my copy of Henrys' Hoard. Well I left the room with the game paused, and when I came back into the room the game had "Crashed" (while it was paused and nobody was touching the Speccy ho hum....bollocks), and funnily enough when he left Henrys Hoard wouldn't load anymore. So I got on the phone and went beserk on him and he said I never touched the tape (lying bastard!!!).

One of my school friends was obsessed with Mutant Fortress (Mutants stole my truck), and the other game Players Premiere released that was exactly the same as it (the name escapes me but I think it had robots instead of mutants). The same kid seemed to think Knuckle Busters was quite good too, total insanity if you ask me :D

One of my "chums" had a habit of picking gaming winners -

For example, "Legend of the Amazon Women" - my how we laughed!

Most of my mates had Amstrad CPC's or a C64. There was only three Spectrum owners that i was mates with and two of them loved Highlander! That game is bloody awful!!

My mate Dave loved 'Oh Mummy!', a game which I thought was Oh Shit! He liked it so much, that even though he had his own Speccy and could therefore play it at home whenever he fancied, he insisted on bringing it over to my place whenever he came and play it at mine!

Mind you, I didn't mind so much when he brought round his brand spanking new copy of Chase HQ to my house. :)

Red Dragon, a text only train sim that my brother loved. He'd even send me to the 'buffet car' for crisps and soda stream pop. I used to cry for Manic Miner.

god, I had totally forgoten about that game! my sister was adicted to it, infact it was the only game she would play...thankfully, my dad swapped our +2 for a +3 and that was the end of "Oh Mummy" (as well as the days of my sister playing games...)

the bad thing was there wherent half as many games for +3 as for 48k or +2 in my circle of friends...

But you could always hook a tape deck up to it, that's what I did with my +3, shit I only owned about 30 disks with my second Speccy.

My mate always loved adventure games and i always loved fast arcade style games so there was always a bit of a clash. Still remember sitting for ages bored as anything waiting for screens from the Hobbit to finally finish building up

It's not rubbish, it's just... different. OK, it's no great shakes technically and the gameplay is rather simple, but I thought it worked quite well. You actually need a fair bit of strategy as well as good twitch skills to complete the levels.

I had a mate who used to quite like LA Swat. He didn't have many games at the time. I remember finding it ok at the time too. It's only about 20 years later I checked on WoS and remembered just how crap it really was. Like a cheapo Commando without any of the fun.

hehe! I remember playing that one. At the time it somehow reminded be of a poor man's, 'Stainless Steel' and that didn't win any awards for brilliance either. :D

LA SWAT yup pretty crap, The same kid who liked Mutant Fortress, and Knuckle Busters (mentioned earlier on), loved this one too.

I remember the day he got it, we spent all afternoon playing it, even though I didn't really want to.

I suppose it was a nice idea for a game, but I think the genre was tried and tested too many times previously, and at a higher quality unfortuately :D

Yea LA Swat is very rubbish. However programmed it should be shot!
If there was a top 100 bad games that would probably be quite near the top.

Well, here's our very own '100 Worst Games'. No sign of LA Swat!

    this is an odd topic.

my mates were into games that I didnt like but I couldnt call them rubbish.

Nebulus and Lords Of Midnight stand out as examples. Literally zero fun for me but they liked them.
