Movie/TV tie-ins

edited December 2007 in Games
I know Ocean used to get a lot of flak for buying licenses and then pumping out generic crap of the worst kind (Transformers, Knight Rider, Highlander et all). Even the better efforts (Cobra springs to mind) had little to do with the copy. However, towards the end, I think the Ocean movie tie-ins were some of the best things that came out for the Spectrum. Games like Batman the Movie, Robocop and the Untouchables are in my top ten. So here's the question I'm taking a long time to getting around to. What current or recent films do you think would have been ripe for a Spectrum game and which licenses do you imagine they would have made an utter horlicks of?

    i'll only do the 3.

1: batman begins - possibly issometric or maybe a side scroller

2: transformers - this would be a good one

3: star wars - loads to do with these.

hang on, its all been done before. :)

hollywood is cak, nothing is new, if you want to play a game of modern film, you'll most likely find its been done 20 some years ago.

late 80's and early 90's had the best films. and no one has beaten ocean yet for movie tie in's imo.

I'd love someone to do a proper Transformers game, the new one is absolutely abysmal as well.

me and my mate were going to make an ace transformer game, but we couldn't decide whether to do it for the speccy or C64. so it never got made

the fact that we didn't own the license and that we didn't know how to program a game had nothing to do with the project being shelved.

ive only played the new one on a DS, it wasn't too bad.

it was literally too bad. the DS shouldn't have 3D games.

The Crow would have made a good Ocean license.

The Lethal weapons would have been good on the speccy. I believe they came out on other formats.
Imagine Basic instinct on the speccy, you could play 'spot the dodgy bits'.

That surf movie with Keanu Reaves (break point?) would be a great game in a sort of "Kane/california games" type of game:

a level (or 2) with surf, another with shooting, and probably one with skydiving!

^^^ Point Break. yeh I agree with those sections like skydiving etc. could have been a game.

Driller Killer should have been a speccy game, lol

How about Goodfellas , in the style of Mugsy?

Oh no boss , you're through . The hitman Joe Pecsi is on his way in!

Nah! Too much random crap to make happen, would one of the bonus levels be eating a pizza as fast as you can before the 2 junky slut crackheads who live in your grotty apartment can get a piece?

Or maybe painting a very large painting of a bull?

How about a filmation game of "The Matrix"? :)

I think also an action arcade game of "Sin City" should have been a nice one. There?s also a great advantage to this idea that would made it similar to Ocean?s Robocop, and this is the black and white style of the entire movie.

    Greetings.

fair point. I was thinking more along the lines of your character walks around drilling random tramps, and that's basically it...it could be a speccy "banned" game.

BAtman Begins could be good in the style of Batman the Movie..

I liked the Wii Transformers game.. could work on the Spec in a 2D enviroment

Independence Day - in teh style of R-Type

But then would the ban be lifted 20 years later only to be a massive anti-climax (the scene when he chases the tramp, down the street randomly sticking him with the drill is hilarious though, even if it's cheesy)?

Men in Black for 9.99, released by Ocean absolutely shite.

3 years later released by Ricochet 2.99, still crap, still nobody likes it.

    Just like the film.

Conan the Barbarian rather than nominate a label, hows about programmed Greg Follis and Roy Carter, with additional moves and speeded up slightly. Then Conan the Destroyer by the same 2, but actually get Paul Murray and Ed Knight on the programming team.

Now you're looking at 2 True Barbarian epics :D

Blade (Wesley Snipes) would make an ace sideways scrolling, Robocop-style hack-em up. Can't understand why Ocean haven taken the opportunity to nab the licence as another Speccy #1 top seller!

-Jet li games, Fist II-style, but without a lot of running.
-The Rock (with Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery) - Batman the movie-style.
    -Resident Evil - Sabouteur style?
-Fast and the Furious - Chase HQ-style

I could go on and on.

Spider-man produced a la Bionic Commando (or Batman the Movie)?

Speed: this should be fairly easy to do; change the car in Chase HQ to a bus and add a scrolling BEU section to the end.

for TV, how about Prison Break ... = the Great Escape engine with contemporary graphics?

Lost = Explorer (and I don't know what's happening in either of them)

I've said this many times before but I think Resident Evil would be great if it was done like Fairlight or Inside Outing. A bit faster, of course. :)

    Necros.

i could see resident evil as more of a text adventure, what with the deep story and the puzzles.

Yeah, it was on the Amiga and it was a shite platformer.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Didn't the Mel Gibson Character have a massive head? Also if you didn't move for thirty seconds it would turn round and deliver an anti-semetic rant?

    Shaun of the Dead

Definitely lends itself to Speccy humour.
