Most of Minter's best games were designed around the Commodore or Atari hardware, and lost a lot in the conversions. Playing them on a Spectrum is a bit like playing an Ultimate or Durell game on a Commodore.
Just to whet your appetites, here's a mock-up by Andrew of the cover:
(As for not buying the book because of Minter's foreword, that seems a bit harsh to me. Jeff was a pioneer of C64 programming, and still treads his own path. For which he should be appluaded)
Shame the dimensions of a C64 isn't as close to a book's dimensions compared to the rubber Speccy.
I've not said too much about this project as the C64 (et al) are fairly unfamiliar beasts to me, but I'm always impressed by the more creative projects around the scene.
(Wish I could think of a better term to refer to the community rather than anything involving "scene" and "community"...)

Yeah. They don't have a nice friendly term like 'specchums'... I guess 'Commode Users' wouldn't do? ;)
If the pages were the same size as the Commodore, I'd have had to spend less time editing :D
Really?
I don't see how hard it is to edit "This game was crap cos it was a commodore 64 game. Laugh at the chunky graphics..." teehee... I mean, it's the same every page  If anything, I'm having difficulty getting the font big enough to take up all the space ;)
Chuck in a few "blah blah"s and "waffling on a bit here"s. That'll help.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Well, Andrew and I are now in the final stages of proof-reading "The Commodore 64 Book 1982-199x". He even managed to sneak in a bit saying Quazatron is (considered to be) better than Paradroid. ;)
Going to the printers on December 1st, out in January.

Well, we've received an advance copy, and I've got some photos.
The rest of the books are due to be delivered to me about four weeks from now, and I'll be sending them out at that point.
Note: If posting these images elsewhere, please host 'em yourself :)
Looks great. I never had one but did play one a lot at a mate's house so will be picking this up to see what I may have missed while we were busy playing arcade conversions and Creatures. And Rainbow Chaser :-/
Action Biker... is that the one featuring Crazy Colin as sponsored by Quavers ("Watch out, they taste curly")?

Necros.
Really difficult at first, seems crap, and then the awesomeness hits you...
Well recommended.
Andrew
Haven't we already got that? :p :D

Commies?
(short message filler)
Good morning, do you have a copy of 'Olsen's Standard Book of British Birds'? The expurgated version?
The expurgated version?
The one without the gannet!
The one without the gannet-?!? They've ALL got the gannet!! It's a Standard British Bird, the gannet, it's in all the books!!!
Well I don't like them. They've got long nasty beaks! And they wet their nests.
But ... but you can't expect them to produce a special edition for gannet-haters!
I'm sorry, I specially want the one without the gannet.
ALL RIGHT! I'll remove it!! *rip* There you are!
I can't buy that. It's torn.
If it was the same shape and size as the Commode, it'd be so heavy you'd barely be able to lift it...
Really?

I'm also going to do the above, but I'm going to shit myself on purpose as well! :D
Andrew (Rolling), you have a PM.

I wonder if C64 users on their website ordered any Speccy books !
