Oxford Speccy meetup, October 20th

Update: Date and venue decided - The Gloucester Arms, from 2pm, 20 October 2007. Full details: http://matt.west.co.tt/spectrum/oxford-spectrum-meet-oct-2007/
----

I think it's about time we had another Speccy meetup in Oxford.

For those of you who don't know the routine (because I don't think we've actually successfully organised one of these through WOS to date - last time I cleverly forgot to announce it here until two days beforehand), people turn up at a nominated pub on a Saturday afternoon possibly wearing geeky t-shirts and wielding laptops, look for the other people with geeky t-shirts and laptops, and beer / food / random banter / 3D Deathchase happens.

I'd like to propose a gathering for some weekend in October... speak up here if you're interested, and if you have any preference about the date. Usual venue for these is the rocktastic enough-steak-to-feed-the-population-of-Glasgow-for-a-month Gloucester Arms, but I'm open to other suggestions.

(Anyone responding "Oxford? Bah, why does it always have to be down south... you should organise one in Aberystwyth, where I live" will be slapped with a wet fish. If you can't make it, organise your own bloody meetup :-) )

Well... I used to live in Oxford and my parents still do. So providing my research does not get the better of me. I may be able to go.

Posh? You've obviously never met Gasman before :)

I'd probably be up for it, but would need to know sometime in advance (like, more than two days) which weekend it would be. Mrs Bod may be up for visiting Oxford, but I doubt she'd be up for the pubmeet part.

... and I'll try not to drink as much as the last ukscene ox-pubmeet.

Okay then, ows about, Oxford? Bah, why does it always have to be up North?

Oh, cuz if I go South, I end up in the water after 5 paces. Right. North it is then. ;)

Oxford? Bah, why does it always have to be across? Why can't it be in the Isle of Man where I live? (mutter mutter grumble price-of-the-steam-racket-company-these-days grumble)

Sounds obvious, but it depends on who goes. Some of the guys I most want to have a pint with live abroad (Beanz, Bruno, Arjun, FRGT, Martijn etc) and the others prolly won't make it anyway (Mr Winston, Richard, Andrew, Andy, Lee, ZX Bex, Mel the Bell etc). Grrrrr get your act together guys - promise not to bring me scythe :)
    Oh bugger!<br>

I'd definitely consider it, depends if I can get 12 hour pass from the wife. She's already pissed off with me for going to a comedy club with work and going to see Rush in October.
It ain't my fault I've got a social life and she hasn't...

If I go, I'll be comming from Wales. Sounds quite fun though!!

    Are our WOS WAGS allowed??

If not why not get the WAGS of WOS to come so they can meet up for a girls night out.

There's certainly a possibility I could make such an event, so long as it's not on the weekend of the 6th/7th...

You know, just once I'd like to come to one of these things...

Why, oh why can't you all set one up in Auburn, Alabama...

Seriously though, I should really pop back and visit some people in England sometime soon... October will be too soon most likely, but if I give enough notice, maybe another WOS meet could be set up... Please? Pretty please?

Its funny people talking about 100 miles being far, funny in the sense that that used to sound far to me but now I commute 100 miles a day for work its not really a big deal and will happily drive 50 just to go nose around my favorite store on a Saturday.

It used to bother me when I first got here that if you asked someone how far a place was they would measure it in time rather than miles...

How far is San Antonio? ...about 3.5hrs.
    huh?

I'd like to attend one at some point on one of my trips home...hopefully one will fall within that window of opportunity in the future.
