are there no P2P sites anymore?

edited September 2007 in Chit chat
OK, I got Limewire, load of crap.

Where's Morpheus, WinMX, Kazaa etc?

Can anybody recommend a decent P"P site that isn't full of spyware or called "bear share"?

I really want the Nancy Sinatra track "The End" as used on the TV advert for Vodaphone, and I just can't find it anywhere - except the instrumantal version. I know it's hardly power metal, but hell, I'm gettn old and I'm allowed to like slushy crap - Karingal gave me permission :)

What about emule have you tried that?

Be carefull when searching in Google as there are allot of phoney sites pretending to be emule.

I have found this tool to be fantastic. It's also spyware free from what I know and have experienced.

Ah, no, I've not - is it a P2P client line WinMX was? If it has the song I want, I'll be very happy indeed :)

I'm sort of half expecting Mel the Bell to come to the rescue here, he must have every song ever released in the history of mankind!

    Thanks Andrew :)

Emule says it's freeware etc but then asks for an activation code, which costs 1.50 to 6.00 GBP to obtain via SMS, so I'm not impressed with that. :( Will try Mel's idea next :)

Strange, from what I can see. Emule is totally Free.

Its WikiPedia entry seems to say its free and I see no mention of a registration fee on their site.

DONT download from. www.emule.com or emule.org.

These are scam sites which try to make you register or pay a fee. One makes you register by email for spam, the other asks you to call a premium rate number to use emule.

    The official site is:http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1

    [edit]
eMule is free and is paid for by dontations.

I dont think you have to pay Death. The installations instructions on the eMule web site say nothing about registering.

Did you follow the link I gave?? If not you have downloaded one of the many scam versions created by internet pirates.

Tried the old standby - The Pirate Bay? Aaaarrrr! Shiver me timbers.. (It's prolly on emusic too - which is a legal subscription service you have to pay for. I like emusic. Lots of interesting new stuff. It's about the only place I've used for music in the last year or so)

Forget Emule. I use Emule Plus, an cool open source mod of the original. Completely free to use and no spyware/adware/etc.

"The End" is on there, but I'm queuing to get it, which may take a while. There's hardly any sources so it may not download at all.

dont forget theres soulseek too which is highly regarded, although when i tried it i dint like it so got rid, i prefer limewire for the odd song / rare songs

Yep, this is the official version, and is (and has always been) totally free and free of spyware/malware, etc.

I haven't heard of eMule Plus before. Might give that a whirl if I can import my current downloads into it. What features does it have over the official eMule? eMule is already pretty feature packed.

    @DEATH:
It's just finished downloading in Emule Plus. PM me if you have problems getting it, I'll send it you.

    @bcass:
I don't know what the main differences are, but here's a comprehensive list of Emule Plus's features. I understand that Emule Plus has everything that the original version has, plus additional features.

The full Emule Plus FAQ is here.

Hmmm, just downloaded eMule Plus, and it actually looks a bit uglier than eMule, despite claims that is has a better interface... Searching seems to be a lot slower, as does startup, but the big bonus is that you can now exclude words within your search.
  • edited September 2007
You can do that in emule with the - sign

    ie.put
    crap software
in the search box might bring up too many results

    but

    crap software -c64

should thin it out a bit

    :)
