If it's any help to people who want to attend, if I'm allowed out for the weekend I'll be driving up the a303 from Yeovil, then up the a34 to Oxford. I can detour to give someone a lift if needed, provided it's not too out-of-the-way.

I'm kinda hoping Gasman can provide a sofa to crash on again :)

I can probably make it depending on work. I'll just crash at Karingals. I've already cleared it with his wife. Sorry dude, you get the sofa again :)

....to do the guttering, worm the cat, fix the squeaky cupboard door, the hole in the roof, the grass cutting, find the kids ball, do the shopping and change the babies nappies

Its funny people talking about 100 miles being far, funny in the sense that that used to sound far to me but now I commute 100 miles a day for work its not really a big deal

Try living on an island! A trip from the South to Ramsey practically demands an overnight stay, it's so far away (about 30 miles). (And yes, we have big road signs on "major routes" that say "The NORTH A5", just like the massive signs on the M1 just outside London. Well, except the signs aren't as big, and the road itself wouldn't even be considered a B road in the UK.

Ironically, my commute is longer now than it was when I lived in Texas - it was only 5 miles each way (League City to Nassau Bay, I used to work opposite the Johnson Space Center). It would have been a mile each way if I had a boat. Now my commute is 12.5 miles each way.

    I do...granted its a big one though :D

One thing about long commutes is you get to listen to a lot of audio books. I go through about 20cds worth a week.

You live in Galveston Island? It's long but rather narrow.

Dunno. Being a newb to meets (I used to go to the ZX Microfair, does that count?) I wasn't sure if it was the norm to crash somewhere, get the train home or drink water and drive.......

Personally I like the train, it's all well and good driving somewhere, but it's a btch driving home next day with your head in a vice.

Looks like plenty of enthusiasm then, and the 20th has decisively emerged as the best date for it. So let's go ahead with that, before someone spoils it all by saying they can't make it then...

What: The Oxford Speccy Pubmeet Reunion Tour 2007
    When: From 2pm, Saturday 20th October 2007
    Where: The Gloucester Arms
How to get there (and other details): http://matt.west.co.tt/spectrum/oxford-spectrum-meet-oct-2007/
What to bring: Geek toys and interesting confectionery. If you want to.

People who have made positive noises so far:
Matthew Westcott (gasman); Scottie_uk; icabod; karingal; Philip Kendall; Nathan Cross (natxcross); csmith; fogartylee; Paul E Collins (Equinox); Andrew Owen (Owenbot); Dave Mills (dtl, Dave The Lurker); Graham Lee (leeg); Pete Thomas; Tyrone C; Vincent Lynch; juice. Non-specific maybes also received from DEATH, ADJB and mile. To those who answered "it depends who else is going" - well, if a stellar line-up like that isn't enough to persuade you to come, then nuts to you :-P

Looks like this is going to be a good 'un...

(Quick request... could a mod please edit this thread's title to put the date in? Thanks!)

    I'm actually really gutted I can't go now :(

I'm going back home sometime next year to visit my ma, maybe something then eh?

Although the only people who live in the vacinity of my old doss is Hern and Dekh from what I gather, oh well I can always dream of meeting the spec-chums one day :(
    Every night is curry night!

@Beanz: If you consider the whole American continent, it is an island.

It's a shame some of us have to ask permission...I have someone in Sacramento who would like to meet me and have a Spectrum day. He even offered a place to sleep, free meal, free beer at a local pub, etc. But my wife doesn't believe it's a good idea. She says I'm crazy! I don't mind driving those 681.89 km and the fact that it takes almost 7 hours to get there, but she thinks it's absurd. There's also this Vintage Computer Festival in November in Mountain View. I was invited to go and make a Sinclair presence, but again, she thinks 629.81 km is too far away.

One day I'll have enough money to take planes and go to all these meetings. That way I could be home for supper. :(
It would be great if someone could take pics or record something.
