Quazatron

edited September 2007 in Games
Didnt play this game much back in the day but totally addicted to it right now. I know i should read up about it (dont want to spoil things too much) but i presume i just kill all the robots on all the different levels and make sure i get a 'Disrupter shield' to stop being killed by the 'blue flashes' ?

IF i complete and wipe out all the robots on all levels is there then another set of levels afterwards or is that game over ?

Love it at the moment, grappling is excellent

Yes, the disrupter shield is the most vital piece of kit. Get one as soon as you can.

For the remaining equipment, it's a good idea to stick to comparatively modest options as the best kit has a higher energy drain, and you'll burn out your power supply much quicker that way. Keep grappling with high powered robots where possible to get new power supplies too.

You get to do other cities, but it's basically just the same levels again.

Cheers i'll get back to it now !

Didnt appreciate this game enough back in the day, really do enjoy it now. I take it Magnetron isnt any good ? Always heard people moaning about the sequel ?

Do love it when you sometimes give an old game another chance and then suddenly you get addicted to it !

Completed Rogue Trooper earlier in the week, surprised i never did it back in the day as i'm a big 2000ad fan and to be fair the games very easy, probably gave up due to boredom with that one ! Anyway next up is Quazatron to complete !

Yep, you get lots of single screen play areas rather than a few big scrolling ones. Magnetron also has a much weaker sub-game, that's more akin to a sliding puzzle than the excellent circuit game from Paradroid and Quazatron. My other main gripe is that when you win the sub-game you just take over the robot like with Paradroid, rather than choosing what to plunder.

Still, once you've swallowed these three backwards steps, it's not a bad game. Play Quazatron to death first though.

I loved Magnetron - except for the sub-game. In some ways I preferred it to Quazatron (mainly because the scrolling in Quazatron was awful).
As for 2000AD, I recently picked up Dredd vs. Death on Gamecube, and Rogue Trooper on PS2... Not stellar, but certainly not bad... worth it if you can get 'em for less than a tenner.

When I was doing the book, I got addicted to Hyperaction... Now that is a good game :)

Yeah i recently played Rogue Trooper on the PC, not bad at all.

Have you seen all the compilations 2000ad are releasing ? Have a look on Amazon. Got all the Judge Dredd and Strontium ones. Also amazing people create those .cbr files ! Have all 1555 of 2000ad ;)

Anyway back to business ! I will check out Magnetron eventually

As people have already said, yes there are, and if I remember correctly weren't the cities given names based on the computers of the day? Something like Commodoronian, Amstradovia?

I'm probably confusing it with something else. Great game though, one of the Speccy's best and dare I say Steve Turners finest moment on the Speccy? Fantastic music too.

Well, I'm sure I should have something extremely profound and amusing to say in this thread. But I don't. I'll just say that Quazatron is an excellent game, one of the best. If you haven't played it you should. Far better than Paradroid too.

I agree , it puzzles me that many C64 hail Paradroid as one of the best - top 10 - games on their system , whilst many Speccy owners don't do the same with Quazatron . Also Quazatron is a FAR superior game to Paradroid in all respects. I always thought they should have released Quazatron 90 on the Amiga

Well completed the first level, just love the sub game when you grapple. Had to save a fair few times but really enjoying it.

Well I only completed (i.e. clocked) the game once - the second city was called Beebatron, presumably after the BBC Micro. So you could be thinking of the right game :) I couldn't tell you what city three was called though, as I got bored shortly after and switched off.

On the subject of looping games - ISTR Chase HQ on the Master System had a nice hidden level - when you completed the game you had to start again on a harder difficulty level, same old same old - but complete it a second time through, and you got to chase down the "boss" - a truck cab - and got a proper game ending if you beat him. Nice.

I completed it once back in the day and got to the second city. I have completed it on emulation a couple of times too, without saving. Have never completed the second city. Might give it a go and keep saving this time just to see what all of the city names are.
