Freeview - interesting times

edited October 2007 in Chit chat
abc1's gone, and ch15 is still free.

FTN's gone, now replaced by Virgin 1, which looks potentially interesting, but restricted to a 4:3 picture.

NutsTV has just started, and gives chavs something to watch in the pub.

C4+1 has recently started, and is proving rather useful as it used to schedule stuff directly against BBC2.

We still need a free sports channel though...

Sky 1 would be nice on Freeview. Can't see that happening in the near future though.

I think the best you're going to get is Sky 3 as Freeview is a direct competitor to Sky if you're not interested in movies or sport (like me - although _one_ sports channel would be nice... BBCi will have to do for now...)

I have Sky. I didn't know FTN was gone now. I watched V1 earlier today. It seems to show a lot of stuff from Sky 1 and Bravo.
I didn't want sky really but when i moved to my new flat the analogue signal was so terrible, i got an engineer out who said i needed a special aerial that would cost two hundred quid! So i got sky which was a lot cheaper.

abc1's gone on Virgin aswell. No warning or anything.

Virgin 1 looked promising from the adverts etc, but it's just the same shows that were on Bravo, Trouble and Challenge. Siouxsie's happy that they've got Star Trek from Sky now though.

About the only progs I'd watch on V1 would be Gadgets gadgets gadgets and Gadgets and Stuff. But they're on at a stupid 6:30am.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

    We dont watch much TV.

1 :- There aint that many good programs ne-more,
2 :- Our lives are far to busy to waste time infront of the TV,

A percet example of this : It's 2am and I'm still working away. No time to sleep let alone watch TV.

We do have a satelite dish and Sky Digi box however we do not have a substription and just watch the free channels. There's plenty of em.

We had a dish fitted to the house when we moved in. I just picked up a 2nd hand sky box up from a local carboot sale for ?10.

We live in the Welsh vallies and have no hope of getting a signal via an aerial.

A few months back Men and Motors stated showing "On The Busses". That was fun to watch whilst eating our tea, but they don't show it no more :(

BUTLER!!!!!!!! GET THAT BUS OUT!!!! ehhhhhgghhghghghhh

On the buses was funny when it was made (must have been the seventies) now it just looks crap. How come Butler was never fired? He must have been the worst bus driver ever!
Come to think of it - bus drivers are probably still the same, judging by the bus service in my area!

That must be the most stupid channel name in the world EVER !!!!!!

I thought that was just some stupid advert campaign for a new prog called Dave and they'd have it on all week or summat.

Renaming the channel to Dave is just fuckin stupid.

    Meh, marketing.

The good repeats will make a useful alternative should nothing else be on.

I taped the Gadgets and Stuff show that was on Virgin 1 last night when i watched this morning they had an item about the best smallest mp3 player, and one of the mp3 players in the test was a first generation ipod the one with four seperate buttons !!! whats the point of showing a gadget show that is so out of date, ridiculous, i wont be watching that again.

    That's a bugger.

Those shows are usually great (that was the first place I saw those organic telly's and that was quite some time ago).

Still as long as I get my Gamer.TV weekly fix from Bravo I'm fine :-D

we have virgin cable, I hardly ever watch scheduled telly now. A bit of "ketchup tv" and mostly t.v on demand.

Like, I just watched most of the series of "From the Earth to the Moon".

This gradual shift in the way we watch telly, might mark the beginning of the end of the BBC as we know it, because most of the beeb shows I do watch, are not actually made by the BBC anyway, but are bought in.

When I watch 4OnDemand, there are no adverts...we just pay for the service.

I've been watching rather a lot of this this week - it's a great channel to just flop in front of. It sells itself as being "the home of witty banter" (complete with announcements by Phill Jupitus), and so you get recent repeats of Top Gear, QI, etc. On the minus side, it edits down programs so they can fit in the ads, but it's tolerable. Plus it's a 4:3 broadcast.

I think it's a great addition to Freeview.

You are aware it's just UKTVG2 renamed? Nothing's changed apart from the name!

Ah, but Freeview didn't carry UKTVG2, so it's brand new to me! Freeview's ditched UKTV Bright Ideas in order to make space for Dave.

Yeah, it's a bummer to know that Top Gear is an hour long on BBC2 but still an hour on Dave after they've added commercials - what are they cutting?

Ah, that I wasn't aware of!

    Well enjoy...

...until they've used up all their shows and you start seeing them all again and again and again...

Yeah, it's a bummer to know that Top Gear is an hour long on BBC2 but still an hour on Dave after they've added commercials - what are they cutting?

They showed the Top Gear American special at the start of the week. The announcer said before the program "this is the one where the hicks threw rocks at them".

Except that the Dave version edited out that scene.
  • edited October 2007
Oh they cut out a fair few bits from that episode.
  • edited October 2007
If you catch the premier showing of Top Gear on UKTVG2/Dave then it's 1 hour 10 minutes. The extra 10 mins is for ads.

The repeats after that are edited down to the hour so that the schedule isn't screwed up. So when the current BBC2 series gets shown on Dave next year it'll be the full thing until they've shown them all once then they'll be stunted like the rest.

The one with Iain Wright was on again the other day. He's probably one of the funniest guests to be on there :-)
