    EVERYBODY PANIC.

In other news, remember the fears that bird flu might mutate and transfer to humans? Well, it already has (apparently).

Pfff, on its way to the UK only now?
We've had it for at least 2 weeks in NL already. And since I've been home this week due to it, I can tell it's a nasty one.

I always think you can tell how bad an infection/ a brand it is by how bad it tastes, the more mankin' the worse.

Anyone ever had a flu jab? I had one about 10 years ago and it made me bad, it's probably bollocks but I swear it gave me an infection, a lot of old folks swear the same and never go again, but it probably is bollocks/impossible.

yeah we get one every year, in fact i'm booked in for my jab on the 17th. sometimes i get a little ill and sometimes i'm fine. it does happen, but you'd rather have what the jab gives you than the full blown virus.

I wasn't sure if it was possible, I got the worst one I ever had immedietely after having one and it took 10 months to shift (4 courses of antibiotics and 3 or 4 courses of steroids). Doctor was sick of me by the end cos it just wouldn't shift. In the end a mate advised me to take some speed and try and burn it out my system, which worked, did't like taking speed though, euurgh.

Still do wonder though if it was from the jab, or just really fluky timing, no way in hell I'd ever go back for a second. Should stop sharing tabs and dope implements with folks really.

My workplace offers us one each year. I usually take it up 'cos the flu is a very unpleasant illness (not a bad cold like most people say when they've "had the flu".) And it can, and will, kill older/weaker people. Not nice.

The virus they inject you with is dead. It wont give you the flu. Or a cold. What it can do though, is temporarily weaken your immune system while your body "fights" the injection, so you might pick something else up. So some weaker/vulnerable people associate the two. So best to drink up the OJ and get your sleep in for the few days afterwards.

Nor will the jab prevent you from getting ill. It just significantly reduces the severity of the illness.

    (No, I'm not medically qualified!)

Flu is what killed my mother, aged 48. Eventually she was in intensive care, and suffered multiple organ failure. She died Christmas Eve 1998.

The flu jab actually consists of various strains that they 'think' will be prevalent that year. You CAN develop flu from the jab but its only a very small % of people who do.

Reason is doesn't seem to work very well some years is because they miss the strain that does the damage out of the cocktail.

I didn't know about the various strains being contained, although I did hear that they take a virus, and weaken it so it's still there, but weak enough that your body should be able to get to know/recognise it and then destroy it.

@ Winston, that's terrible, 48 is still young nowadays, no age at all.

You don't honestly think any of Cornish-plop's posts would ever be based on actual facts, do you? The essence of every good conspiracy theory is unprovable rumours and tales, usually originating from "a guy I know who knows someone else who heard it from some drugged-up old person that's one step away from being in a psychiatric hospital" or a disreputable website that claims everything it publishes "is 100% true", and accordingly gathers its information from the sources I just mentioned.

Although there is an argument that if we want to save more old people we should vaccinate all children with the flu vaccine..as they are the little burgers who tend to spread the stuff.
