"A pop up window was blocked"

edited October 2007 in Chit chat
But I don't want it blocked, and even though when I go into Tools and make sure "Turn Off Pop Up Blocker" is selected, it blocks a pop up that is actually a link I want. What the f--- do I do here? I'm so frustrated by this shit.

    Simply use Firefox :)
    Oh bugger!<br>

Firefox is good but it ain't great. I sometimes have to close it down and restart it because sometimes it uses up all my processor time and brings everything to a slow crawl. Very bizarre.

I don't trust Firefox either, but I think that's a subliminal thing due to watching the amnesia inducing snooze-athon Clint Eastwood movie of the same name. Anyone else remember it? Me neither. Kelly's Heroes was better.

My dad took me to see it at the cinema on my birthday.

    His opinion: Too dark.

Can't you right click on the message at the top of the browser window and see show popup? Or whatever it is.

I have both IE and Firefox installed so if a site doesn't work in one I just go onto it in the other.
    Shimple! :)

    Use Opera instead then :-P

    Tools - Preferences:

    4 choices:

    Open all pop-ups
    Open pop-ups in background
    Block unwanted pop-ups
    Block all pop-ups

Choose block unwanted and you'll never have any problems. I've been using Opera on that setting for donkey's and have only seen one site not work with it.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

    On IE7: Choose TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS/PRIVACY
And then unckeck the "Turn on pop-up blocker"

    He's already tried that ;-)

Spector, do you have a toolbar installed in IE? They conflict if they have their own blocker.

I use the IE tab in Firefox, so there's no need to switch

    These steps *should* work.

    1) Install Firefox.
    2) Install the Adblock Plus plugin.
    3) Navigate to the page/website that you're having the pop-up on.
    4) If Firefox blocks the pop-up, click on ABP, and disable for the website or the page. It should remember the setting from then on.

    Alternately:
    1) Install Firefox.
    2) Go to Tools>Options>Content.
    3) Click on Exceptions next to Block pop-ups and enter the website address that you don't want pop-ups to be blocked.

    Bonus:
Install the IE plugin for Firefox. If you are on a website that requires IE, all you need to do is click on the little icon on the bottom right of the browser and voila! Firefox switches to IE mode (the browser doesn't change, only the way it interprets the page) and loads the page. Nice!

Karingal, I hope you're using the latest version of Firefox? I've never had a problem with it and my machine isn't exactly top of the line. :)

I didn't install one myself, nah it's just the way it looked when I first got the computer last year. It doesn't matter now though, as I've managed by repeatedly clicking on the link to get some of what I want to see. I think I'll just watch Firefox now.

Bollocks I cut the wrong bit out.

    This weekend I are mostly:

Fed up having to code round IE6 bugs and misinterpretations of CSS standards.

2 hour job becomes 6 hours of frigging around. Worst under certain curcumstances IE6 layers the background image ONTOP of other images. What a nightmare.

And positioning? Let's just add extra hight to margins because we don't care what your website looks like...

I am, when I check for updates I told no new updates available. I'll probably put up with it cos it only happens once every couple of weeks. Having said that I do have Firefox open ALL the time.

Trying to get something to work in all versions of IE, Firefox and Opera takes more time than should even if you use "standards".

The problem is this weeks latest fad that gets incorporated into a browser rendering engine before real industry standards are set and Microsoft frequently ignoring standards that are in place.

I find when Firefox is chewing up a huge amount of CPU time... it's usually not Firefox, but Flash - usually some obnoxious advert running in a tab I'm not currently looking at.

Could well be, I've never checked it out that closely. I will do next time it happens.

As someone on the forum already stated ... CSS has been around for ages.
