DVD-RW angst

edited October 2007 in Chit chat
I've been recording some old videotapes onto Sony DVD-RW discs, and it went quite well. However I've finalised the discs and have discovered that they won't play on any other DVD player except the one I used to make the recordings. As you can gather, this is something that annoys me a great deal. Can anyone suggest what could possibly be the reason for this, and better still, a solution?

I haven't got a solution but i read somewhere that when you copy tapes to dvd different machines have different ways of reading the data. I had the same problem but managed to get a machine that copies them in a 'universal' way.
If you have the cash you could buy a different machine.

Edited because I obviously can't read.

Could be the brand of disc you've used. Try one single DVD-R disc only and see how you get on with that.

    I find dvd+r more reliable than -r

Buy a new dvd burner? I had a similar issue once and it was down to the crappy burner.

Name and shame your DVD recorder.

Quite a few players won't play RW discs - just like car stereos. Just copy them to a -R and you should be ok.
