I make sure I go to Amsterdam at least twice a year. I dont 'smoke' and have never indulged whilst visiting the DeWallen district...

...yet the atmosphere in the cafes and bars is second to none, the Heineken flows and the cakes are eaten. On one side Canadian students mix with Japanese businesman and on the other a 70 year old hippy waxes lyrical with a Rastafarian. All in candle light and probably with a cat on your lap!

Trust me, the Speccy doesnt enter the mix...unless theres a gap in the market for a Speccy themed coffee shop!? Now theres a thought!

Would it be entirely wise discussing the Spectrum whilst spliffed up?
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

I am not sure yet if I'll be in the country between christmas and new year, but if I am I would like to join. My preference would be Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 to meet in an Amsterdam pub. I know a couple of decent places to go to which are not too touristic and are close to Amsterdam Central Station as well.

Would be nice if Martijn could join too. :)

It would be fun, I agree... We'll actually be staying in Diemen, just five minutes by train from the central station...

Some of you guys from England should come over too... it's only a short hop by plane... Pretty cheap I would have thought :)

maybe, me and the bird want to go to amsterdam, was thinking near the middle of jan to coincide with my birthday but maybe we could go a bit earlier. it'd prolly be better what with the school holidays for her.

i'll have a word and see what she thinks.

Would a WOS get together be held in the kind of places you're likely to visit or are you now under the thumb?

He doesn't know yet. He'll have to ask his "wife".

I wouldnt worry too much about the 'places' you would be visiting with your wives and girlfriends...not only are the sex establishments seperate to the cafes and bars there is also an attitude and cultural difference that is so open minded and laid back anything goes...I love that an old woman can be seen queuing up in a bakery for a loaf with a ladyboy behind her on his/her lunchbreak.

The first couple of rows of the DeWallen are actually geared towards the tourist industry and thats where all the nice cafes/bars/hotels are...I admit that the further out you get you have to be careful of the pickpocketers and pimps outside the brothels.

With all due respect, if your going to the 'Dam you would have such a great time without worrying about who liked Speccys or not! Get yourself in a cafe, order one of the amazing tea or coffees and chill out to some Nigerian folk band that are playing in the corner...

Get a photo of one of the 'window' girls holding a speccy and we could start a 'My spectrum in unusual places' photo thread

You'd be surprised.... This was taken the last time I was over there (at a bar opposite the American Bookstore, and just round the corner from my wife's favourite coffee shop)... Of course, I'm not usually that clean-shaven... must have been time for my fortnightly shave.

/I'm so glad google doesn't play here...

Like most major cities in Europe, if you want drugs, sex, guns or trouble you will find it...even in Spalding.

The irony of brothels in Amsterdam is that they are probably cleaner than your local swimming baths or hospital. The shopping is ace too...either mainstream shopping just off 'Dam square' or the boutiques along the tramlines. Am I sounding like the Amsterdam tourist board? I LOVE Amsterdam.

Heh... well that's good I guess... cos I'm probably one of the only people who goes to Amsterdam but stays clean - unless you count alcohol :)

Cool lightsabre in the background...not sure about the 2 yoda's though (or the 2 on the window ledge).

I also stay clean...lots of alcohol though. Actually I hammered the cakes last time though so maybe I'm not as clean as I would like to think.

My brother is a serious smoker so had a couple of drags on his but thats it! It makes me go cold and hungry! Would like to try mushrooms though...then play Chaos.

you wanna try ketamine, i had a bizarre experience playing on my ds on the stuff, i got pretty far playing a game, then my hands went numb so i just watched the game play on demo for ages. 3 hours later when i came round i realized i didn't even bring my DS to the party!

I think I'll skip the Special K, theres something unceremoniously skanky about the whole set-up. I dont 'do' drugs per se.

Under the right circunstances and in the right enviroment mushrooms I believe could be a good idea. My brother had them in the 'Dam spread on pate on toast to help the digestion...his mate ate a whole one and passed out on a tramtrack.

urghh ive seen people vomit on shrooms straight away, not my bag baby. id only do ket in a safe enviornment, lest i get robbed, ie i wouldn't have the motor skills to stop a paraplegic lifting my wallet.
