Modded ZX81 -

edited December 2007 in Hardware
I just received a box of stuff from a bulk Ebay purchase.

One of the items was a ZX81. With a modded socket added to the top left.

Whats this for ?

Difficult to say as its just a din socket :)

I suppose it could be connected to the tape socket or something or possibly the 81 has an audio board fitted maybe ?

You probably will have to have a peek inside to see what its connected to

Show us the internals, otherwise this is all guessing.
Spider's guess would be the most common thing.
Pentagon 48/128, ZS Scorpion 256 Turbo+, Compact 256 Turbo, Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K (DK'Tronic case, Fuller FDS case, Timex case variant), Timex Sinclair TC2048, Sprinter 2016S, Didaktik M, CoBra, TK90X, TK95, ATM Turbo 2+, Pentagon 1024SL 2.2

Perhaps a more stable power supply socket that doesnt come out when you sneeze.
    No one important.

    Maybe a joystick (5,6,7,8 and 0 Keys) connector ?

Most likely some kind of joystick interface considering where the solder joints are. Perhaps someone who's familar with the shematics can give you a more definite answer.

EDIT: Having taken a peek at the shematics releaved that it's 99.8% a joystick connector how Gods described.
