Buying Region 1 DVD's from England.

edited December 2007 in Chit chat
I want to buy region 1 DVD of English shows for my extended family over in the USA.

Shows like BBC's Cost would be ideal for some of our more intellectual relitives. Shows like Father Ted would be great for the lovers of Brit coms.

Does anyone a site I can search and odrer region 1 DVD's of British shows?

Perhaps try playusa.com? That's the best site I've come across for obtaining region 1 dvds in the uk although I'm sure there are others.

There are a few availible i think mainly through BBC America. "Little Britian" and the British version of "The Office" is all i've seen in the stores i frequent thus far.

Many of the things I want don't seem available. I wanted a region one version of Coast. This is a TV show where they travel arround the costland of the British Isles exploring the history, present and future of each costal location allong the way. It's very informative and very interesting. I know some of my more academic relitives would love such a gift.

Alas it's not available in region one. I'm half tempted to buy a region 2 and make a de-regionalised NTSC copy.

Dedicated region 1 DVDs of British shows are bloody expensive over here. If they're really into British stuff, then they should do as I do; buy a multi-region DVD player, and order region 2 DVDs from a UK-based website. It'll save them a lot of money in the long run, trust me.

    Yup, I second that!

(or if you have a DVD player in your computer you can also play them that way)

If its just for yourself then get the torrents instead. Just finished watching Boys from the Blackstuff, forgot how good (and depressing) that was.

Wouldn't it just be easier for your family to buy a multi-region DVD player?

The price of 2 DVDs would cover the cost of a new player!

(edit... oops.. just repeated what Monty Mole said!)

(Incidentally, I've just bought a new DVD recorder with DivX and 160 Gb HD from 'Netto' for £80 - pretty good it is too.)
