Thought Polaroids were cool when I was a little kid, now that I look back they were pointless. They don't even look good, in fact they look kind of tacky really.

Perfect for taking pics you don't want the photo dept at boots thumbing through though :D

Leonard Shelby probably couldn't live without them. :)

Yeah, perfect for 'very private' photos...but then again, I was only 6/7 years old..what do I know.

The film was a bit pricey..and I seem to remember the quality not being great.

    Ahh, the summer of '78

    Wrong forum. Wrong humour.

I am sorry your childhood was taken away from you.

If it was supposed to be a joke, then it was truly in bad taste.

Then again, this is WoS, and "the line" isn't always obvious.

Eh, no, nothing like that..on re-read, I can see what it looks like.doh.

I meant I remember that summer...but I did allude to someone aboves me sentiment..well, I'm sure a few poloroids WERE used for that.

I don't think he meant it in any bad way.

Anway, I suppose Polaroids were great for their time, both for instant results and also for "private" photos (the manufacturer must have made a fortune on the cameras that were bougth for this purpose!). But nowadays, of course, a digital camera gives far better quality, and you can either transfer the images to your PC or directly to a printer (if the camera and printer allow this), so the Polaroid is pretty much obsolete.

Oh, sorry if "he's" a woman

Still, if she is then she won't be pleased at you revealing it, as now there'll be a flurry of sad, lonely blokes trying pathetically to get her attention.

Anyway, Kaija, how you doing? I'm a millionaire, you know.

And I own WOS you know. I just let Martijn pretend he does so that he doesn't feel so bad.

Oh lord, someone hasn't been keeping up to date on the WOS forums....

Why thank you Karingal, I will.

ewfg You know how just like in the book Golden Compass people have some stupid animals following them around blabbering incessantly where ever they go?

Well, WoS has a similar feature. It's called the "avatar"

All it is, is a picture the users can choose to display near their names in the forums.

So, check out Kaija's avatar. See the lady on the horse? Kaija is a lady and not a horse.

BattleBunny is ... well, a bunny. And this bunny presumably battles something or other. Perhaps the Abominable Taxman, or mayhap even everyday mirages of some sort, such as TV-soccer.

    Kajia = Lady
    Lady = She

    Anywayyyy moving swiftly on

As a kid i did really want one of these Polaroid cameras. Didnt take too many pictures as a kid as i couldnt be bothered with all the faffing around of taking a film to be developed then waiting for it to be done and going into town a few days later etc.

Seeing the picture just develop in front of your eyes was superb to a kid.

Lol, It's small wonder I left Europe....it's my own fault for ever mentioning it. I could have not said a word..and watched all the lonely geeks fight over me...like goes on with the only other female on here.

Anyone got a problem with me..fup off..I'll come round you're place and headbutt your face! (I lived in Scotland for a few years)

    To ewfg:

You've obviously got some kind of hang up. I bet if I looked down your pants..I'd find traces of your old man's lipstick. So behave, or I'll stick my boot that far up your arse..you wont have to bend down to kiss it.

I think we should all calm down and put this down to nothing more than a few miss placed and miss judged comments.

I really don't think any of them were meant in mallace. I think it's a question of everyone taking things a bit to litterally.

Lets all be friends and make up eh?

    Yeah, ok.

To recap on me, just so ya know.

Transwoman, xxy, intersex, Kaija is not my real name, I've had the sex op and 40K worth of facial and body surgery. No one knows my past, unless I tell them and when I do...no one can believe it. . I left Norway, then Scotland because of all the slagging I got. I am now married to a business woman and my life consists of moving around the americas with her. Home is in Oregon. I've just spent 5 weeks in Canada. The photos on my myspace are all old and presurgery. I'm a bit insane due to the massive pressure on me in my past. I no longer do S/M...I don't need to...oh, and I love the zx spectrum, it the only think I have happy mempries of growing up.

    So there.

Is that supposed to be funny or something?

    All I said was

[/quote]Still, if she is then she won't be pleased at you revealing it, as now there'll be a flurry of sad, lonely blokes trying pathetically to get her attention.

Which was obviously intended not to be taken seriously. I was simply playing (hopefully humourously) on the stereotype that all male computer users are social inadequates who go to pathetic extremes to try to chat up and impress any woman who posts on the boards.

And if you notice, it was me who I made the butt of the joke. So if you're upset because my comments were sexist (which they were, but about men, not women, and only a fraction of the male gender; the computer fans) then grow up, you'd see far stronger, but still non-offensive to anyone with a brain, jokes on a Carry on Film.

You might find such jokes offensive, but most people don't mind them, even if aimed at them.

Dragging the thread back on topic:

Yes, I had a polaroid camera once. The quality wasn't that great, the shutter speed was terrible, but in the 1980s, if you wanted an instant photo it was the only way of getting one. Polaroid are still in that photographic niche, but I think more with passport photos - and I bet most of their kit has gone digital anyway (if they haven't - they are mad - after all, Polaroid are known for instant cameras, if they weren't the first on the digital bandwagon they've lost the plot!)

Incidentally, I wonder how much homegrown porn has grown with the easy availability of cheap digital video cameras and editing software, and cheap digital still cameras...

    So there.

Oh, I see. I didn't know that, and I certainly wasn't having a go at you in my posts:

"I don't think he meant it in any bad way."

    and

"Oh, sorry if "he's" a woman"

When I said "he" in the first post it was because I assumed that you were male as almost all posters here are, I thought ZX Beccy was the only female poster on WOS, and I never meant anything by it.

And as for my "sorry if he's a woman" post, which I see now why you were offended, I was simply playing on grammar since Dekh has told me that you were female, so taking it for granted that you were female and always had been, I was admitting my mistake and trying to play on words. I didn't know your history, nor, now I know, do I consider it something that you should be mocked for.

I really didn't know that you were a transexual, if I'd read it in any earlier posts then I'd forgotten about it (I visit a lot of forums, and learn a lot about people, computers, games, books etc, and much of it gets lost in a blur of forgotten facts and memories), and I promise I wasn't having a go at you for that. I wasn't having a go at you for anything, which is why I was so surprised when you blew up and wrote that appalling stuff that I won't repeat here (but begins with To ewgf: ...), but I can understand you assuming the worst since I'd imagine you've been subjected to abuse and snidey comments for most of your life.

I can't say I understand your position (never having been in it or close to anyone in it), but I do sympathise with deeply who's been deeply unhappy, and I wouldn't mock someone for something that they've suffered through. I'm glad you have someone now, though, and I hope you find happiness and security (all too rare in this world for anyone, let alone those of us who've been emotionally damaged, me included)

oh, and I love the zx spectrum, it the only think I have happy mempries of growing up.

Yes, I agree there - my own life hasn't exactly been cheerful (and if there is a God then he's never shown any concern for me, but that's a whole other subject).

Anyway, let's get back on topic, eh? Worshipping the Spectrum, hating the C64 and it's foul users, discussing anything we care to and changing topics whenever we feel like it. And hating the C64.

I still see Polaroids being used at auditions in Hollywood. I take headshots of my sons but some casting companies insist on taking a Polaroid and staple it to the audition form for a commercial/motive/etc.

And we still sell the cameras and the film where I work (Staples).

Actually, that's the movie; the book is called [strike]Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone[/strike] Northern Lights. :p ;)

And the trilogy as a whole, which on another thread was called Dark Materials, is actually His Dark Materials. :p :D

Still, for a fitting comment, I suppose I should refer people to my sig. :D :D :D
