Can I just say that Jack Nicholson is a twonk? He's told news organisations that sleeping pills are dangerous because he took some, went to sleep, got up in the middle of the night because he had to drive somewhere, and nearly drove off a cliff.

Yes, Jack. That's because you took sleeping pills and then drove a car.

Yeah, it tells you not to exceed dosage too...driving off a cliff, doubling your dose...neither is an accident.

well no, might not be an accident. but it doesn't mean its suicide to take more than the recomended daily allowence. just like my mate pete who far excede his daily pie intake by at least three. he's not depressed or anything he just really likes pies.
  • edited January 2008
No your right its not suicide..but not an accident either....bugs me when they call stuff like this an accident.

    It's not an accident.....its a 'stupid'.

Pie intake is dependent on the size of the pie anyway and its contents....if its a fish pie of 7" diameter for example you can consume 2x those compared with say...a lard pie.

I'll prepare a pie chart to show you.

i used to see a death list in on of my roles at the NHS, they used to record stuff like that as death by misadventure. eg mr thompson fell off his ladder and broke his neck - verdict: death by misadventure.
tbh i don't ever remeber seeing the word accidental ever used. or the word stupid :)

no, he doesn't waer a tight outfit. christian bale does though. and he does look good in it especially now with the cowl attachment thing it has. it means he can turn his head better, which should make for some better fight scenes.

    KA POW

You'll be hoping that he wears the nipple version I suppose.

Before seeing that trailer we had doubts about Heath playing the Joker (mainly because of the make-up) but he looks and (more importantly) sounds stunning in that trailer.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Anyone hear about this? Some FOX News anchor guy basically made fun of Ledger dying.:

I hate FOX News. They make the rest of America look like blithering insensitive idiots (mind you I am a a Liberal, so there's a little bias on my part, but this guy was being a total arse).

I heard it on the radio today..they played it. Not that big a deal I thought. It was funny though because the radio station they played it on (950am), the previous day their 'shock jock' Micheal Savage had been saying much worse stuff about him.

Links gone. Anybody got another link?

I'm thinking it's a photo done by Westboro Church?

It was a really nasty flyer for the WBC saying they were going to picket Ledger's funeral.

Why? What did Ledger do to deserve that kind of "attention"?

He starred in Brokeback Mnt (gay cowboys). This 'church' is high profile over here for protesting at gay/military etc etc funerals and being very obnoxious. They were at a guys funeral last month who got killed in Iraq with banners saying stuff like 'glad the pig is dead' and so forth.

This guy Fred Phelps is just plain sick. I'm surprised someone hasn't wiped him out...

I thought it'd be something like that.

The WBC should be sent to the West Bank/Iraq/Afghanistan and see how long they survive. I'd give them 4 minutes. Just long enough to say where they're from and that they're going to preach to everybody and tell them that they're all wrong.

I just hope someone would film it aswell. It'd be the highest grossing documentary ever

What a lovely Christian attitude. Definately following Jesus's teachings there.

And people actually pickett the funerals of gays and anyone else that they find "substandard" (to their own standards)?

Seriously, how can they defend their actions against criticism? Surely someone must have pointed out that their actions are heartless and fascist (I'd imagine a lot of people would have pointed that out, in person, in newspapers, on TV, on radio). I'll never understand humans.

Again, seriously, I saw on Family Guy (a very funny Amercian cartoon) that when Peter (a very stupid man) went to Texas and the locals found out that he was officially borderline retarded, they rode him out of town as they didn't want him there. Of course, most Texans, like most people anywhere, would no doubt not do anything like that. But are some people in authority in Texas seriously down on mentally retarded people? If so, then apart from being another similarity with Nazism, how do the people who have this predjudice at the same time support George Bush, who a lot of people consider to be retarded? I'm not making a joke here, I'm wondering how they can have two yardsticks.

And I would have thought that Jesus would have suported the mentally ill. But then, Jesus spoke out against money and property, yet many of his most vocal followers are wealthy beyond imagination (*cough* the Vatican *cough*), and I don't doubt that many of the "all gays or jews or retards or non-American white straight church attending people will go to Hell, alle-luyah!" type preachers are very well off financially too. As well as engaged in adulterous and/or gay sexual affairs.

    Hypocrasy - the universal language.

Quite right - most people aren't aware just how harmful sleeping pills can be.

Blimey, I've been on them recently (bad time, don't ask), I've only taken the one per night, as per the Doctor's instructions, and they don't help much, so I was thinking of taking two instead, but didn't want to risk liver damage (I've heard that before that it's your liver that cops the damage) although I didn't really think that two would be enough to cause illness - I thought that traditionally people needed a whole load of sleeping tablets (or paracetomol) and a bottle of alcohol for a fatal dose?

As an aside, I saw on QI that around twenty-two pounds of chocolate would prove fatal for a human. If I was going to kill myself I think I'd prefer the chocolate route to tablets (unless it was white or dark chocolate :o - only milk chocolate for me!).

Sorry for posting three times straight in one thread, but if you follow the link:

    http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3152753#3152755

to see the church's flyer, you can see that the church's zip code (like a post code) begins 666 (I didn't notice it but someone on that page pointed it out).

This flyer, which is too ridiculous to even appear in a Monty Python parody, says things like:

God hates fags and fag enablers.

God hates the sordid, tacky bucket of slime seasoned with vomit known as "Brokeback Mountain" - and he hates all persons having anything whatsoever to do with it.

Heath Ledger is now in Hell, and has begun serving his eternal sentence there

I mean, where do you begin to argue with that? And this is in a land that's proud of it's freedoms and tolerances. And yes, of course, these people represent only a tiny fraction of one part of the USA, but it's not the USA I'm criticising, it's the intellect and morality (or rather the near total lack of) that these church leaders (or whatever they call themselves) display.

The nutters even have a web page! Have you seen it? This stuff is a stand up comedian's dream! Someone should tell Jasper Carrott. I quote:

Thank God for the bombing of WBC!
    Luke 6:22,23.

Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) had been faithfully preaching for four years when a local whore stepped forward to run for District Attorney on a platform that she would shut down our ministry

Established in 1955 by Pastor Fred Phelps, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) of Topeka, Kansas still exists today as an Old School (or, Primitive) Baptist Church. We adhere to the teachings of the Bible, preach against all form of sin (e.g., fornication, adultery [including divorce and remarriage], sodomy

[* So presumably hate is no longer a sin?]

WBC engages in daily peaceful sidewalk demonstrations opposing the homosexual lifestyle of soul-damning, nation-destroying filth. We display large, colorful signs containing Bible words and sentiments, including: GOD HATES FAGS, FAGS HATE GOD, AIDS CURES FAGS, THANK GOD FOR AIDS, FAGS BURN IN HELL, GOD IS NOT MOCKED, FAGS ARE NATURE FREAKS, GOD GAVE FAGS UP, NO SPECIAL LAWS FOR FAGS, FAGS DOOM NATIONS, THANK GOD FOR DEAD SOLDIERS, FAG TROOPS, GOD BLEW UP THE TROOPS, GOD HATES AMERICA, AMERICA IS DOOMED, THE WORLD IS DOOMED, etc. [These phrases are so Bible authentic, aren't they? Unbelivable]

God does not love everyone. [Erm, that's contrary to every Christian message I've ever heard ever]

[We picket...] including funerals of impenitent sodomites (like Matthew Shepard) and over 200 military funerals of troops whom God has killed in Iraq/Afghanistan in righteous judgment against an evil nation. [You couldn't make this up, could you?]

[Their explanation for picketing the funeral of a soldier (Army Sgt. Sean M. Gaul.) is] You can't fight for a nation of fags and their enablers without the Wrath of God, without "knowing the Judgment of God" (Romans 1:32).

[We are going to picket at the] Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception 400 Michigan Ave. NE This is for the pope's meeting with american bishops. Beware, Catholic parishioners, priests, members, bishops, cardinals, and pope! You are all headed for Hell for being a part of the greatest false religious system in the entire world! As if the "hail mary" and "God loves everyone" lies weren't enough, you decided it was necessary to incorporate pedophile rapists into your midst. You think God will give you a wink and let you get by with that? Shut up!

For a list of their protests:

And look at the photos on:

    http://www.godhatesfags.com/visual/photos/index.html

Where they are picketing with signs saying:

    Aids cures fags

    9-11 Gift from God

America is doomed, God hates your tears

2 Gay rights - Aids and Hell

And they are allowed to do this? You'd think at the very least they'd be arrested for causing a public nuiscance and be banned from protesting again?

I honestly can't decide it this is funny (as it's so rdiculous), or if it's too frightening to be humourous. I mean, these people not only hurt the people they picket, but they are surely brainwashing their own children and anyone else who comes under their influence.

I thought that the underlying message of Christianity was that God loved all his creations equally. Perhaps I'm getting confused with another religion. :???:
