All drippy ballads, regardless of who sang them, should be consigned to Room 101. Especially the sort of drippy garbage from the likes of daniel bedingfield and justin timberlake.
I think 'flid' is derived from the thalidomide incident (where mothers taking that drug gave birth to children with hands and feet, but no arms and legs).
Joey is from Joey Deacon, who appeared on Blue Peter.
I bet every locality had a playground phrase "You should be in XXXXX", where XXXXX was the town that the local mental institute was located.
Yeah forgot about Mong. My wifes northern (please forgive her) and she always says a name called 'Belm' which i think is the equivalent of spaz but northern.
A flyd (dont know how you spell the insult!) was a horrible name for a kid, saying they had short arms and legs.
It originated from thallidiomide (bad spelling i think), you might have seen them sometimes on TV. I think the government or someone messed up in the late 60's/70's badly and gave pregnant mothers some chemical which caused the babies to grow differently.
Obviously as a kid you just said the insult and didnt really realise what it was about.
But i'm ashamed to say Joey really was a classic insult back in the day (like the post above says, its about the guy who was on Blue Peter, most kids first experience of a spastic)
I still often use the great playground insult/joke...
"Did you see that program on tv last night ? Spastics say no ?'
"No i didnt, i missed it"
(Heh heh heh), (hey it was funny back in the 80's !)
Bad i know but i stil remember that day. They had the program on QED, the next day at school everyone 'had tourettes' and when a teacher went to tell them off they said its because they had tourettes !
DId feel sorry for the guy, but on the other hand god i couldnt stop laughing when i saw that program.
I was having a chat with my mate about that yearssss later and wondered what came of him, then if by magic i saw there was an update to Johns not mad on TV a day or two later.
He still has it, not as bad but does well to manage with it and had a lot of funny stories. Hope he made a bit of money from that dvd.

God we were horrible as kids using all those names ! Not as bad as these chavs nowadays though
Yes, but there word of choice seems to be "Doilum", which is a filthy word because other than obviously meaning stupid it has no offensiveness to anybody but the "Spackers" who are actually using it.
Try calling a chav or a charva or whatever a doilum, it's like a red rag to a bull. Or an adrenaline shot to a scrawny weasel with a burberry cap on :D
Children, generally, are nasty and cruel - the incidences of bullying and abuse are much higher on the school playground than the adult world. They are conniving and very good at getting away with it - looking like the perfect, and well behaved child at home, but away from supervision being extremely cruel and nasty - the consequence: parents don't believe reports of their child being a bully, consequently, the child never getting any kind of discipline for their bad behaviour.
I don't think children now are any worse than they were 20 years ago.

Hmmm dont know about that. I'm quite happy for some kid to call me a 'spastic' at school compared to nowadays where theres a larger chance of getting knifed, beaten up by a gang of kids or happy slapped on a mobile phone at school.
Sticks n stones and all that. Dont get me wrong, as kids names were bad but i think nowadays things are much worse.
Still feel sorry if i ever see a schoolkid on his way to school who is fat, ginger, has glasses, a hearing-aid, a speech impediment, potentially gay, doesnt like sport, wears hand me down clothes and has dandruff.
The getting knifed and beaten to within an inch of your life is actually pretty much vanishingly rare, despite the shrill noises made by the Daily Wail and other similar sensationalistic media portrayals. It's only newsworthy because it's relatively uncommon. However, the typical low level violence and mental abuse that children dish out, children have dished out forever. It's not newsworthy because it happens on every single playground in the land.

Get your point, sure the newspapers do go over the top telling us how kids nowadays are all thug wannabees.
But in my days at school there were one or two bullies and that was it, nowadays (according to some of my young cousins) theres gangs of the little shits everywhere in most schools. Many more kids seem to be getting killed than the old days

Yeah didnt they change the name from Mencap or the Spastics society to Scope because too many people were using the offensive word 'spastic' ?

I'm sure there's a bit where he randomly shouts "Jehovahs" that nearly made me laugh my drink out of my nose
Heh heh... Yeah, I have the dvd too!! I'm not a big fan of Bo Selecta, but this was a really good piss-take:
