C64 games to hit Wii's Virtual Console...

Uridium and IK to start with.

Now, the obvious next question... will the Speccy follow? The C64 had a much bigger market share IIRC because it was also huge in America... still, I bet there's a strong European market for Speccy games, especially the denied ones.

Just so long as it doesn't bring heat down on the emulation scene, I'm all for it...

Hmmm, torn on this, be great if Speccy games were re-released again but i can imagine suddenly so many games might be denied.

You know, I've always thought of asking on here if there was a speccy emulator for the Wii.

I'd much prefer to do a homebrew Speccy SD card for the Wii than get the games through the VC. Console games (already got Solomon's Key (or is it club?) and Splatterhouse) are fine, but I don't see the point in Speccy c64 games on there.

Wouldn't you have more space wasted by the emulation code than the actual game itself?
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I see this as potentially a good thing, for Wii users who do not have a computer. But how many are there out there?

Most of the back catalogue for c64 games are available from gb64.com, so (if like me) you have an emulator already... there would be no point in buying games via the VC. I think it would be the same for Spectrum games if they ever hit the VC.

I have speccy games on my pc, my ds, on my ps2 and on my phone. Do I need speccy games on my expensive high end console as well? I don't really think so!

    ?3.75! :o Not even ?2.99?

Unless that's for a pack, that makes it significantly more expensive per game than the C64 joystick thingy...

That's pretty much the problem with it as I see it to. I imagine you can download the majority of C64 games + an emulator for nothing (I wouldn't actually know of course, never strayed from the golden path - okay, maybe once to play Action Biker...). But I wonder if it was Speccy games on the Wii, and you could download Jet Pac, or Atic Atac, to easily play on your TV, if we might just be tempted...?

That's a disgraceful price. Because these games are ready-made there's no need to put man-hours into programming and design and no justification at all for this sort of price tag. Games of the C64's vintage shouldn't be going for more than 50p a shot.

I disagree...its not like 'those in the know' can't play these through other means....nothing wrong with making money! who'd have thunk these old games would come around again and be profitable once more.

Anyway...the beauty of it is those that want to pay will, those that don't wont.

Not mentioning the fact you can pay $60 for a Wii/PS3/Xbox360 game that has 4-6hrs of gameplay! and 25+ yrs later these are still selling!

Does each downloaded game contain an individual emulator (like the N64 VC games) or is there just one emu present on the console and used for all the C64 games?

There is an emulator for every game downloaded - that's the same for every virtual console title. Kind of wasteful on NAND, I know, but that's the way it is.

Nothing is wrong with making money but also at the same time if someone takes the p*ss its not right.

Think they could have had a huge success here if they changed the price of the downloads, even to that of 1.99 bringing back memories of budget games on the Speccy or C64.

Granted not everyone knows about emulators but all these years later and reselling these games for 3.50 each or whatever, still seems quite dear considering the age of them.

If anything sell them at 1.99, get loads of people interested and then perhaps start increasing the price once everyone jumps on the bandwagon and loves downloading the old games

I don't really see the age as an issue, no different to buying old movies/tv shows or buying an old painting etc.

Imagine for a moment if you will!
25yrs later and you have no idea about emulation or access to a c64. Your favorite game used to be Uridium. Now here it is on the Wii for a paltry sum of 3.75 quiddles! Oh the joy of reliving those long lost back bedroom times waggling the joystick with a close friend...oh and chance to play Uridium again!.
