Isn't this the guy who did 2001: A Space Odyssey?

    I shall miss him too.

I did tend to find his books more like technical documents but it can't be denied he could forecast the future (mobile phones & satellites for example).

I have too, although I've not necessarily understood it

I grew up watching him on TV. Rest in peace.

Shame he had to go, but at least he made it until 90.

My fondest memories are of the Mysterious World TV series, the 2001 and 2010 movies, and the novels Childhood's End and The City And The Stars.

Ah man that's a shame. RIP Arthur.

I grew up reading his books, some of which are truly excellent. The Rama series (esp the first book) is awesome.

    oh

no Kubrick, no A.C.Clarke, no Stanislaw Lem...

    no SF

    RIP

    Dammit! Bad show :(

I guess I will have to erect a black obelisk inhis honour and beat one of my fellow monkeys to death with a dinosaur bone.

As a mark of respect of course.

Shame though really, some brilliant work, from an interesting man.

Well, I'm thankful he hung on as long as he did - 90 is a good innings.

Fall of moondust and Deep range, two excellent books.

They really made a mess of the 2001 movie.

Rumour has it his name was just Arthur Clarke but he had a bit of a stammer.

I will have to force the wife to watch 2001 in honour now. She has never seen it. Silly woman. Before me she'd never seen Alien or Robocop either.

Rumour also has it he was a peadophile, but unlike Jacko and Glitter, I find it highly unlikely.

You see rumours can destroy the lives of people you don't know, but the Daily Mail, and various other do gooder printed toilet papers, will make sure you do know them, for all the wrong reasons before they're proven innocent (I use the word innocent because it seems to be guilty until proven innocent these days instead of the other way round)..........Weither they did anything wrong or not!

I for one will not believe such vicious shite, but apparently Arther C Clarke is a nonce, like I say I don't, and won't believe it!!!

I was wondering when someone would bring that up...

Well somebody had to, in this day and age a tabloid scandal never goes unnoticed.

Even if it would be nice to ignore it, once in a while

Shouldn't that be changed to everyone IS after 1995, seems to be the way things work these days.

"Hang on him down the street who's never done anything bad in his life looks a little strange"......."OK let me get a linch mob together and I'll get back to you, are burning torches OK? Or are we skipping them and going straight to baseball bats and kitchen knives?".

He was my favourite living author, and the way he used to mix science-fiction with true pathos was truly brilliant. I still think that he was the greatest science fiction author of all time, as well as a first class visionary.

I'll be honest, never read anything of his, but 2001: A Space Odyssey has always been one of my favourite films.

A real shame, but 90 years old... Good innings. :(

I've never read his books (I might have one or two though), I do like 2001 but it's one of those films that seems unnecesarily long. It is an amazing film though.

I've seen a few short interviews with Clarke and he's got to be one of the most clued up technological people I've ever seen.

It's a real shame that people like him can die. At least he did lead a long life, reaching 90 is fantastic.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

*I'll get my coat and punish myself in the corner for saying that
(it's an allusion to S. Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, btw)

That would make Paul McCartney a tree-o-phile then.

RIP ACC. Along with Isaac Asimov, he must be one of the best deep sci-fi novelist I ever read. Their stories weren't merely about sci-fi but also about humanity and emotions.

Songs of Distant Earth, Rama series and the Odyssey series are some of my fav works by ACC.
