Bandersnatch ... what if.
I just watched [strike]Commercial Breaks[/strike] (again  ) and am wondering how it might have changed or revolutionised the Speccy gaming world if it had been successfully produced, and more importantly, met with open arms by the wallet of Lil' Jimmy Schoolchild. (I'm completely ignoring the potential cost of the game+add-on)
I assume that other companies would have had to go the same route, technologically. If the Bandersnatch "add-on" was "just" extra memory we might perhaps have seen the 128k Speccy better designed memory-wise, and perhaps even with, dare I say it, half a meg of memory.
The Speccy could have stayed in business for quite a few more years.
What think you?
EDIT: Due to a comment by an ... err ... anonymous person, I've decided to cover up the name of the show which I am referring to. You are not to click the link ... at all ... ever! In fact there is no link there at all! Thank you.

Ive watched commercial breaks loads of times and have often wondered what happened to the samples of that game you see being produced in it. Somebody somewhere must have an unfinished version of it.
FILLER!!!!!!!
Great job there Scottie_uk, that's yours, right?
You are officially off my Xmas card list.
I'm almost sorry.
Funnily enough, I posted 'Breaks' on YouTube years ago and got bollocked for it! Which lead me to pull all my films (I used to do loads of animation stuff) off the site. I'll never post anything on there again.
That's the Bandersnatch add-on ... right?
Just check out that XR?3i lol
Ahhh, that nearly-seamless, black extension in the back ... no clue, sorry :-(
Actually - one of my biggest regrets is not stealling the laminated BugByte logo whilst p*ssing around at Odin. It was just left there outside the offices next to loads of breeze blocks! Imagine taking that home on the bus!
512k I think. Way too expensive.
The whole thing fell apart and became "Gift From The Gods". A normal 48k game.
You are joking, or you are joking?
Shout it out why don't you!
It was never going to work! It would have cost a couple of speccy +2s and then some!
These Imagine people had high hopes and bollocks for brains!
Flash cars, and sponsored bike rides make not the man!
These people where tits of the highest order!
And it's a shame that people believed it so much that they ended their lives.
Still. Aren't cats funny!
Frobush is heavily against how people looked and talked like in the 80's ... we must forgive the lad.
wot is he doing on a retro site then eh, EH? :-o :-?
For the sake of argy-bargy what if it had been affordable and people had bought it, just imagine how completely different the Speccy-scene might be today. That's where I would have liked this thread to have gone, i.e. the possibilities if this doohickie had been a "hit"
Definitely, especially the one Schrödinger had/didn't have.
Thanks for that! Interesting ... hmmm.
I think the term is Argument Bargument. And there is no such thing as a "doohickie", whether you like it or not!
And we'll never know whether Schrödinger's cat ever got out of the box! But if it ever did (or didn't) I bet it would be laughing. Or not. It would be both laughing and not laughing. At the same time.
That reminds me - I got a quantum mechanical clock for my birthday. It tells the right time and the wrong time at the same time! I also got a fanny magnet.
Put ZnorXman and Frobush in the same thread, and it's like putting a couple of Furbies next to each other :p
Two +2's and a packet of Rolos according to Frobush.
And an XR3i.
And your dignity.
All for a wobbly RAM pack that gives you less than half the power of Mode 1 on the SAM.
I'm surprised they didn't bite the bullet and release it on MicroDrive and Multiload instead - couldn't be worse than Street Fighter II.
Yeah there is that too! And kicked off Psygnosis wirh 16 bit versions (St, Amiga and early PC and Mac)
But we are talking speccy here!
And the programmers and artists that formed Dentons.
Steve Blower, the guy in charge of Ocean's artistic output was championing this, which I thought was odd at the time. Blower was working for Ocean and also did all the Imagine artwork and things got strange and ended up in court.
Google him.
Something tells me the search will wield some comical results :D
