Funny you should mentions DF's urbanupstart, about a quarter of my mates have been addicted to them since they were about 14. There's a good trade goes on with those and valium. Never really thought of anything but CoCodamol as certain painkillers are supposed to be dangerous for your breathing if you have asthma.

Got my appointment in an hour :) Won't be getting it cut out today though as it's swelled up but some antibiotics should help stop the pain and I can then hopefully grab more than 20 mins of sleep without waking up :)

Interesting you should say that painkillers didn't work because they certainly worked for me and I've had some motherf*****s of toothache bastards.

Neurofen was the one that did the trick and got to work within half an hour and kept the pain away for many hours. If you've tried them then try a different brand such as Ibuprofen.

When I had toothache a few years ago I took ibuprofen (400mg) and paracetamol at the same time and it didn't even dent the pain. I say 'toothache' but in fact it was the root of the tooth causing trouble. Initially, a swig of water would stop the pain for a few mins but over the course of the day the pain got worse and more drastic measures were required, eventually resorting to sticking ice cubes in to numb the side of my mouth until my dental appointment in the morning. No sleep all night because I had to keep the ice cubes coming to prevent the most excruciating pain all down the left side of my head, neck and shoulders.

The pains had been coming and going for a couple of weeks prior to this, and I learned the value (the hard way) of visiting the dentist sooner rather than later.

All this talk of toothache has made me think of that film 'Marathon Man.' Whoa! The torture scene in that was intense!!! The agony that Dustin's character must have felt with that must have been horrific!

He actually looks sooooo wasted afterwards (as one would be)- great acting by both there.
I'd like to see it again actually.....or would !?!

    'Is it safe?'

I've never had toothache yet!!! But i do have a hole in one of my back teeth and it does occasionally hurt slightly but nothing too serious. The dentist put a temporary filling in but that fell out last month. I ain't going back coz they want to take out the existing filling in the tooth and extend it. No way!!!!! That sounds too sore!

Wow zx1, can't belive you've never had toothache, I thought everybody had since childhood... hope you never get it as bad as I've had it this week or like it sounds Refrenz had it. It seems toothache is a pain with levels, i.e. no matter how bad you had it you can always get a new level of pain , hehe

I've actually been lying in bed since Sunday until today (apart from managing to stagger to the dentist on Tuesday) with my face buried into my pillow not being able to cope, didn't get more that 10 minutes worth of sleep in one go until this morning, and how sweet it was :D

Refrenz, never thought about ice cubes, apart from Clove Oil (which hasn't took it away but has took the edge off, admittedly I think by burning the area, lol) that's another tip I'm gonna take away from this episode ;) and your right about going to the dentist as soon as you get a twinge, oh yeah, your so soo right :D

That's quite impressive, you must have an amzing set of teeth!
I nearly developed an abcess once when a filling got infected. I ignored it but after a few days of having a wierd feeling inside the tooth went to the dentist who removed the tooth saying an abcess was starting to develop in the gum. It was horrible, they did so much pulling i thought the dentist was going to pull my head off! Got a false tooth fitted soon after that.
