?30 at 8-1 to win for me. That's a very pleasing ?220:smile: I like the Grand National.

For the win you get back your stake - 2.50 and 9 times this value so £25.
For the place (first 4) you get your stake - £2.50 and 9/4 times this value so
    £8.62.
    That's a total of £33.62 including your £5 stake.
    Your round I believe.

    are you sure?

    I made a place ?5.62

    1/4 of the odds of 9/1 = 2.25 to 1

I reckoned it to be about £10 with stake.

yeah, but it's an each way bet, so it's ?2.50 wagered at the placed odds, but a ?5 stake.

I won too- I chose Comply Or Die because the weather was good and he was a solid contender. Also, after the bizarre events of three days ago, the word "die" was on my mind a lot...

Yeah sorry, that's what I meant. About a fiver winnings plus the ?5 back. I thought it was about that until I read Geoff saying ?32 so I didn't bother posting! Thought I was way out!

My better half had an each-way on King John's Castle, which was a dead-cert given it was her birthday today.

Chuckle ;) The guys in front of me to collect their winnings were chuffed when one won 3 pounds and the other 5 pounds ?!? Just reminds me of my mates mum who puts on 50p on the grand national for her excitement ! Wheres everyones balls ?!? Its a one off race, put on 20 quid or something !

I took a risk, put 60 quid down knowing i might lose it all but its a one off, 20 quid on Comply or Die to win at 10-1 (we secured the odds the day before) and also got King Johns each way so won about 300 quid in total, lost a few on some risks i took but overall very happy. Comply or Die reminded me of Robocop and Johns stood out as its my surname so had to put money on that !

I dont normally bet on the grand national at all as i hate the way so many horses are destroyed, if the jumps were lower people would still bet millions regardless.

Anyway i didnt watch the race but was very happy when my mate said my horses came in 1st and 2nd. Now of course i think back thinking i should have put more on (nearly put 50 quid on it which would have been 500 odd back !)

Nasty nasty ! ;) Like i say thats why i dont watch it, hate seeing the horses fall.

Still gutted i didnt put 50 quid on it, dohhh ! Oh well, most of my moneys gone, i did a stupid schoolboy error of telling the wife (instead of saying 'yeah i lost') , so a trip to the trafford centre, lunch, paying for my parents meal as well hasnt left me with a ton left, oh well !

Note to self - If win a lot of money dont tell a) the wife b) my family who didnt win on the race.

I wouldn't put a big stake on the national.

I'd rather put a large punt on a short flat, than a long steeplechase.

I won nowt, but my wife won just over ?20, using a free ?10 credit with an SMS betting service advertised in this month's Viz.

If you text VIZ to 89808 they give you ?10 of credit, no strings attached.

You then register and confirm your age, etc, at www.betnow.co.uk

Texts you send cost your standard network rate, texts you receive are free.

We both registered on Saturday morning and each put three ?3 bets on. Comply or die won, and so my missus got about ?25. The ?3 stake goes back into her account credit so she can have another bet. It costs ?1 to collect your winnings from any post office, so she will pick up about ?20. They SMS you some sort of collection code, plus you need to take ID when collecting your winnings.
