Where to buy a Dalek from?

A mate of mine* is wondering if he can buy a full sized Dalek for in his living room. I have seen them for sale in the past, pre-built and (I think) in kit form, but for ridiculous (for most people) prices. I did see one a couple of years ago on the 'net for £1000, and I think I saw another going for £1,800 (might have been £1,600, or something, I'm not sure). Surely they needn't cost that much (especially if they're unoffical, so the BBC parasites don't get a cut)?

Is there anywhere that sells full sized Daleks for a reasonable cost, either pre-built or in kit form?

* Yes, it is for a mate of mine, not for me, though I would buy one if I had the space. Maybe when I move again.

You can buy official, BBC endorsed Daleks. They cost ?2,500 though. They claim that demand is high, so it appears that people are buying them at that price. If you want a cheap, psychopathic, killing machine you are going to have to take on the mantle of Davros and build one yourself. Here's some DIY Dalek sites:

all you need is an old type bin upside down with a sink plunger glued to it. hey presto a darlek. if you want a tardis paint a cupboard blue and glue a lightbulb to the top.

For added realism kick the wife in the throat, glue wheels to her knees and jam her inside. Make sure you are downstairs when you do it so that you can escape up the stairs when she points the plunger at you.

This guy lives in the same town as me and has produced several models over the years. maybe he can give you some pointers or even possibly make you a Dalek?

Interestly you can't "officially" sell a Dalek unless it's been sanctioned by the BBC - that's why you rarely see them on eBay or similar for very long as the BBC get any such sales removed. But PM me if you are after one, I might be able to help... ;-)
