What the best game you played

edited May 2008 in Games
My best game was The Sentinal. It was a very simple game that you could get right into and and the fact that you could save levels made it a long lasting. I also had this game on the ps1 but the spectrum version was a lot better as it was more harder to play as you also lost energy if you got caught by the sentinal but you didn,t on the ps1 as you could move a lot faster.

Best game on the Spectrum then

There are a number of threads where people are asked for their top-3, top-5 or top-10 games, but it is always very hard to actually pick out the "best" games by so many available.

To name only one is even harder.. :)

Best game - lords of midnight.

probably Doom, because I'd not played video games for a couple of years, and then bought a new ps1 and it came with Doom.

    Corr... toughie!!

My fave game? Probably either Deus Ex or Deus Ex:Invisible War. I love FPS games, and them two are the best I've played. Funny thing is, it's not necessarily the FPS ascpects of the games that I love (the actual combat in them isn't the greatest), but more the depth of gameplay (eg the RPG-ish element of building your character) and completely immersive game world. You can rant on all day about Halo, but for me, these win hands down every time.

On the Speccy though, there's way too many to choose from, so many great memories. But, some include: Mugsy (again!!), Avalon/Dragontorc, Bak To Skool, Turbo Esprit, the list goes on and on!!

On the Speccy, it has to be Head Over Heels for me, though there's tons of other games that I also love.

On consoles....thats a toughie. It's a toss up between Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask on N64 for a good lengthy arcade adventure, Global Defence Force on PS2 for pure arcade action or Resident Evil 4.

I really like Fat Worm Blows a Sparky. The 3D graphics are incredibly smooth and the game has a great feeling of depth. It also plays beautifully. It's a very original game.

As far as shoot-em-ups go, I really like Zynaps. It's a great shooter, but only on the Spectrum.

Enforcer on the C64 is tons better, though!

On the Speccy, I'm gonna say... 'Elite.'

On other platforms... 'Atlantis the lost tales' (Saturn) or 'Panza Dragoon Saga'

PS1: 'Deathtrap Dungeon' or 'Dracula resurrection'

    Dreamcast: 'Shadowman'

Oh what a tough thread indeedy.

I guess it comes down to which game you have spent the most time playing, still play from time to time and actually enjoy playing it, ie rather than it being a bit of a slog just because you want to progress.

For me it has to be the hugely under-rated and largely forgotten game by Rare - Hostile Waters.

Think of it as Carrier Command on steroids!!!

Could lose entire evenings to that game and love every minute of it. Tom Baker doing voice acting in it really was a stroke of genius.

Difficult to say only one... thinking...

Many games in mind; maybe Knight Lore

    Speccy: Knight Lore.
    All-time: Zelda Ocarina of Time

Ikari Warriors, one of the best games i have played for the last years, talking about the Spectrum version by the way.

    Cheers!

    Cheers!

In the UK Your Sinclair had a cover tape which had an exclusive one level demo of Ikari Warriors. I played that non stop, over and over and i was counting the days till the final version. Loved it.

Must admit i really did like Ikari Warriors and Fernandez Must Die on the Amiga, played those to two death.

But Ikari Warriors - being able to go in a tank, swim etc, it was brilliant. As much as i loved Commando i loved the 2 player feature in Ikari Warriors. Thought the graphics in Commando were better though

    'Dracula resurrection'

Superb games, those. Necronomicon is great too, made by the same team, and in the same style as both the Dracula Resurrection games.

Good call... I may even have a bash at those at some point this week.

Oh I love Necronomicon!!! Such fantasic atmosphere and very very clever that the first disc is totally absorbing, even though, when you think about it... Nothing really happens! :D Got stuck in disc two though, with the summoning spell type puzzle.

Actually, if you like those kind of "first-person-point-and-click" games, check out a game called Black Dahlia (if you haven't already). I've always been slightly dubious about games that are mostly made up of film clips, but it is a great game.

Oh..not the best but 'Viking Raiders' was a hoot.

Tir na Nog and LOM however have become legends to me.

I know exactly what you mean. These games are so good, that aspects of them actually embed themselves into your life. Not every game you pick up nowadays can do that. Do ya feel in the slightest bit tingly when you see James Earl Cash from Manhunt go skulking about the screen? Not really? How about Cuchulainn in Tir na Nog? Wow!

ZX Spectrum version of Bomb Jack for me. It is the game I always return to after being into something else for a while. I prefer to play it on the GP2x these days.
