Help needed: Stuck on Mire Mare

edited May 2008 in Games
I can't seem to progress in the Cavern of Mediocrity. There is a big ogre blocking the exit to the next area in the east. I've tried various items (like the ACG Bracelet from the Realm of Rabble Rousers and the Stamper Stone from Entrance to Deep Dungeon) on him but the bast won't budge!

Any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks!

The Stamper Stone is to put on the fire to stop the phoenix rising.

I got stuck in this part as well. Besides, I had big trouble in the previous section. I could not time those #@!! jumps right and lost most of my lives!

To get past the ogre you have to get Sabreman to turn back into the Werewolf... have you collected all the objects to undo the cure from Knight Lore?

You're approaching this from the wrong side. You should have turned *left* at Alberquerque.

I always found that POKE 35899,0 helps.

How I hate Mire-Mare threads

After turning back into the werewolf from knightlore you also need to feed the troll (not ogre) 135 pig nipples, it has to be 135 exactly otherwise he keels over and blocks the way forward, any less and he cleaves your head in half with his bullshit :D

Thanks for all the input, just got back from lunch so I'm gonna try out your suggestions. Here's where I was when I saved last:

I see your problem now, from the screenshot your playing the Beta version 6 or lower, your missing the special attack routines from the patch 6.08.

I suggest you goto microsoft update and get the fix.

I thought it was an early beta 6 - it uses the standard rom character set on betas up to 6.07.

I believe you are holding the Whip of Crack in the wrong hand ... unless that's the Weiner of Misfortune? Which would make sense because the Ogre seems ready and raring to have a go at you.

*This is the Hot Coffee version, right?*

So I only got a beta? That would explain the rather crappy background graphics, too. Anyone willing to share a screenshot of their post-beta versions, or even the whole thing?

Thanks for the tip with the pig nipples, dm_boozefreek - after I did that and indeed vanquished the troll, there was a message saying "You may have defeated the troll, but you'll never take my game from the stage" - wonder how I'm gonna solve that riddle, because there was a room resembling a stage in the Misguided Iberians zone, but when I try to put any object on the stage, the text "Denienced!" flashes up and then the game crashes.

I think this thread is a disgrace to the good name of Ultimate. Anyone can clearly see that he's just trying to pass off a retouched screenshot from Bandersnatch.

How and where do you get a copy of this game.

Have you checked the WOS Archive for the game?

The page contains everything that is available to download regarding this game.

Nah! Personally I thought it looked a bit like a doctored screenshot from the Speccy version of Rimrunner :D

Get your facts right, good Sir. It's actually from Bandersnatch's predecessor, Fuse Brawl.

Sorry you fell for it - well, at least I didn't rickroll you. The surfacing of Mire Mare is a bit of a sporadic running gag here, though it's definitely not as overused as the Stonkers joke.
Maybe we should just extrapolate our own version of the game from all the info we have (Sabre Wulf style, Sabreman series, top-down-view etc.) - we could do it with the combined talent of all the people here at WOS, just call it Eram Erim or some other silly shit.

For my next spoof I'll try to do better mock-ups, this one admittedly was rather half-assed. The ogre originally was 2 or 3 flipped and rotated Sabre Wulf enemies which looked totally stupid so I started doodling on the spot. If I had been arsed, say a few hours I'd have done something a lot more convincing ;-)

I did a mockup for the speccy book I'll have to upload when I get home...

I know you're all lying, because I stole the Mire Mare disks from Ultimate's office while posing as a motorcycle courier. Working for FeckArse industries, we hatched our diabolical plan, but I done a runner on FeckArse industries.

I been keeping the disks safe and sound for all this time, and now it is time for the ransom, if you chappies would like to hand me 5 million pounds, you can have them..otherwise I shall destroy them at midnight tonight!
I stole it off a space ship.

    Doesn't bother me!

I'm surprised none of you know that you can skip to the end of the game by pressing SHIFT and ENTER.

It's worth doing if only to see the extraordinary end-game animation. Sabre Man's head should never have been anywhere near that part of the Wulf's anatomy!
  • edited May 2008
Why bother...the Commodore 64 version is far superior in gameplay and graphics.

Wasn't Mire Mare made from the code used for Bandersnatch?

    Hrmph! That was my gag.

Gift From The Gods and Brataccas both apparently reuse some of the Bandersnatch code though.
