What make me smile is that this guy (I assume) comes into the forum criticising the Spectrum's hardware which he knows nothing about with info he got off wikipedia.

With a starting point like that it's game over even before it's begun...
The quote is from wikipedia, but I mentioned the lack of colour RAM in an earlier post. So oops, wrong. And if there's something factually incorrect about that wikipedia page, would you please edit it and tell us what errors you fixed?
Another case of having a problem with facts coming from a (perceived) enemy.

Like I already said, if you find facts that disprove your theories obnoxious then you know where the exit is. But please don't pretend you're winning an argument because you find me obnoxious. That's beyond pathetic.

<drivel> Technically my first point was correct....about the not much sleep thing.....apparently it took you all night and all morning to come up with a response which even then lacked 'thump' <drivel>
Embarrassingly for you, you can go to my post http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showpost.php?p=270790&postcount=161 and just click on the links from my quotes. The were all quotes from within a few hours. Hard luck boy. Chin up and all that.

No I'm saying the complete opposite. Sinclair did have a good reputation globaly except in their biggest potential markets US and Canada.

Therefore this will be enough to skew the global sales when looking at ebay.
OK, here's you're chance of stardom. Which local ebay sites will give you more matches for "Sinclair" than "Commodore" (besides the UK)? Are you even going to bother to look because I'd save myself the effort.

It's not rocket science, you claim to be smart, but a claim is all it is.
Have you got a quote from me to back this up? I said this was easy. And it is.

I don't care to curry favour with any of you above, and I actually like the Spectrum (a Spectrum+ with one of those MMC cards would be nice), but it's amazing how nobody on this incredibly "active" forum can come up with anything approahing a fact to say the ZX community is more "active" than the Commodore one.
Well done with all the hilarious insults though.

Nothing wrong with the wikipedia page but if you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't need to quote it.

And as for the 'colour RAM', you were calling it dire. Care to expand?

What kind of parallel cretinous universe do you come from where you claim I can be up all night writing answers to posts that haven't even been made yet?
Do you really think you're making sense here? It doesn't even give times to confuse you more, it says "3 hours ago" or "2 hours ago".

Thanks for saying I'm right there. And if I'm quoting the wikipedia page that you admit is right, then why shouldn't I cut and paste instead of typing my own explantion?
Yes, I would care to expand the Spectrum's colour RAM. Then it wouldn't have all those horrible colour clashes.

Pretty much why I'm not bothering to go back to the C64 websites and give an analysis with citations because it's a waste of my time, it won't mean much in the grand scheme of things, and it still won't alter the fact that DanSolo can't handle other people disagreeing with him without folders of pre-prepared data at their fingertips to use as evidence should the need arise. I'd be surprised and a little disturbed should people keep lists of URLs to back up each and every one of their opinions and leanings.

He isn't the greatest advert for them, is he?

DanSolo, not only are a few of us yanking your chain, but we disagree with you, too. Get over it, move on. It's sunny outside, go get some fresh air.

By typing your own explanation you have some credibility behind your answer, by quoting wikipedia you're just asking to get flamed.

You can't expand on the 'colour RAM' because you have merely cut and paste from wikipedia instead have an understanding.

If you're going stand there naked before us expect to get ridiculed...

I'm on Dan's side with this. I like Dan, Dan's a mans Dan, i think we should keep him.

err, so what are the main points and arguments here, there doesn't seem to be much arhument apart from people arguing over the argument itself and it's tactics and timeframes :(

we need some big bold (possibly Arial Black size 7 ) swear words and insults, but there banned :(

The oldest one in the book. Well if you don't have the time to defend your position, consider it undefended.

Well this all proves that you are a cuntface. I'm allowed say that if I don't bother to back up my arguments, right?

Help, he's being mean. Next he'll produce a fact from anywhere on earth to say there's more Sinclair scene activity than Commodore scene activity. Oh, wait. No he won't.

Nick, you still haven't answered my question from several pages back... where's the PROOF that the Spectrum is more active and therefore more loved?

I have no proof to give you. It's an impression I got from looking at the C64 scene a while back.

If you want hard numbers then you're going to have to find someone else to get them for you, because I'm happy to be disagreed with - but I know junk data when I see it (I mean - eBay sales and Usenet posts? Come on!).

There's a well-known saying about opinions - feel free to embrace it.

The thing is, the knub of the point that people on both sides seem to miss is that loved doesn't necessarily mean more ubiquitous. Windows, for instance, is more popular than the Commodore 64 but I don't know *anyone* who loves Windows, mostly, they are using it because they have to.

It's probably awfully hard to quantify which machine is more "loved" or not. I think the only really way to quantify it is which got the most hobbyist blood, sweat and tears over the hardware: and when you look at the sheer diversity of hobbyist Spectrum clones -vs- the dearth of hobbyist C64 clones, you'd really have to say the Spectrum has the "love" factor, even if the sheer quantity of official machines made was a lot lower.

To be honest the fact that both machines have an active scene is good news, they are interesting machines from a more interesting era of computing, and it's good that a cottage industry is around keeping these classic systems alive.
