Simple CF card interface for interested...

edited January 2009 in Hardware
I'm about to manufacture smaller count of simple CF card interfaces for Spectrum 48K. Some details and supporting SW are here:

http://www.ppest.org/zx/zx.php

IF will be with ROM on board - it is necessary to avoid troubles with internal ROM replacement.
SW in ROM (some kind OS) is simple and fast, intended mostly for gaming. There is supporting PC SW for copying/converting Z80 and TAP files to/from CF card.

It would be good to know how many people is interested, because of PCB ordering quantity.

I'd be interested depending on price...would it be an internal unit or external?

It is external - Plug & Play unit :-)
I don't think that internal would be interesting, and hardly will fit in regular 48K case. But you have all documentation on site to build one self.
I'm about calculating price. Will give it soon here...

    hey seller(s),
could you make it compatible with +3?
according to this , the expansion port is very similar..
BTW, I would prefer DIY kit, with just PCB (and maybe box, components separately)

Interface is compatible with 128K Spectrums. And works, at least on bare 128K (did not test on +3). But no SW for support their capabilities over 48K model. I don't see much point in making it, because we have available couple IF for 128K, +3 .
DIY kit - it may be. PCB, programmed EPROM. Box ? It is much nicer opened :D

    Hi all,

Piters simple IDE interface is running very well. I use it with HDD insted of CF and in combination with Winstons Diagnostig board for ROM storage. File handling via PC is simple but as far as I remember there is also a Spectrum only solution which alows to copy files from tape to CF.
ROM software is easy to use andI have not found any incompatibility so far.

I have not tried it. but I guess it is not ResiDos compatible, due to the lack of extra ram. Maybe it would be useful but create it with extra ram to gain Resi Dos compatibility.

Summary: the Interface is perfect for everyone searching for a simple mass storage solution with the main intend of gaming.

    Regards

what about power supply, does it need external PSU or it uses Spectrums? how much does it 'draw'?

It uses Spectrums +5V, of course. Less than 150mA is required when works. So, will be no problems - if there is no other IF. What probably would not work - it is not intended to work together with any other (address conflicts) .

    so what's going on?
Piters, why are you ignoring my emails about this CF interface that is supposedly 'for sale'?
  • edited December 2008
Sorry, I changed host, E-mail server, so some mails went away.
For now I can not produce them. I did not said that is for sale, just asked about interested people. Starting production needs some financial investments, and I'm not in best pos at moment.

hi piters i built your CF adapter for +3 by ripping a cf card header off a "7in1" usb cardreader and am running with garry lancasters +3e and it works great! fits nicely under my 3.5"floppy!!!!

great work this, by the way! The smallest CF i could get was 4GB and i'm using about 10% of that. speed is great!

    many thanks for your work
