    Novatech don't offer XP Pro.

Have discovered a problem with ordering from TigerDirect. They only take wire transfer for international orders, and I was hoping to stick it on the credit card. Bugger!

Anyone got any ideas of US sites that will take UK credit cards?

    yes they do!

they don't pre install it, but that's a good thing! means you can do it yourself, and do it properly

What does this mean in practice with a laptop that contain an SATA HD? I believe this means sourcing the driver myself, which if Acer are anything to go by means bodging one on.

I'm now looking at a Novatech No OS model, but wonder where I can get XP Pro for cheaper than the £95 inc VAT they're asking. Anyone?

nope, you're getting muddled up with SCSI

sata hard drives are no problem. XP has no problem at all installing

    EDIT:

I have been informed that it can be a problem :) this is odd as my PC had the drivers on the XP SP2 disk and installed no problems. apparently some obscure chipsets are used that XP has no drivers for.

that said, most bioses can set the sata controller to ide mode anyway so you can get it installed then install the right drivers.

Also my laptop from Novatech came with a CD full of XP drivers

Not sure about that mate. Installing XP on the Acer laptop was a pain in the arse because Acer purposely stopped supporting XP and removed the SATA driver from their website. You either need the SATA driver for that model or integrate the SATA driver into your XP disc, which is a pain in the arse.
If the Novatech one turns up with drivers, that's great then :)

You can do the paypal thing to me if you want..(remember the fees) and I can order it on my CC.

Edit: and as for the XP Pro...I could help you out there if you know what I mean.

    It arrived this morning.
    It's so shiny and pretty.
Why didn't you tell me it was so shiny and pretty?
    I'm in love :)
Can't wait to get it home and grubbify its shiny bits ;)
    Thanks, guesser.

You think that's bad. Try a black MacBook. It's like a black CD inlay. Shows absolutely every mark. I really should have gone for the white one, but I wanted the highest spec I could get.

this has a reflective glossy black lid, so I suspect probably just as bad

On the novatech site I like the look of this:

What do you think of it?

can't see any obvious things wrong, in fact it's better than the one I've got (mine has no firewire for example) dunno if that's one of the ones I considered buying, or if it's a new model
