Renegade - best beat em up on speccy?
Following on from a recent Arcade sequels thread,
It is my personal opinion that Renegade is probably the best beat 'em up released for the spectrum. Sure Target renegade was bigger and had weapons BUT the original has that mystery component that makes it a great that you can replay many times over.
What do you think is the best beat em up? Or have I nailed it in the first post?

Sorry don't want to split sentiments about types of beat em' ups, given what's been going on in a few other threads recently :D
I think WOTEF scores highly for defining the genre. I like the way that a single blow decides the contest in it, as that makes for much more strategy than having to bash away repeatedly to decrease energy bars.
Saboteur and Bruce Lee are both worth a mention too. They're good largely because they extend the genre in interesting ways by adding elements of platform and exploration games. As pure beat 'em ups they're a bit limited though as they don't offer many moves.
That's pretty much the way I see it.
There are a few other beat-em-ups I did quite like though: Human Killing Machine, Street Fighter, Dragon Ninja. Am I the only person who actually liked Fist II?
Nah! I thought it was OK!, tried playing it again years ago, about 98 I think and found it kept crashing. Since then I've tried it again a few more times, it crashes less (or sometimes not at all), but I lose interest quite quickly.
Never really went for beat-em-ups all said.
For graphics, look at Shadow Warriors (but it's dead easy).
But it's WOTEF which keeps me playing through all these years.
Renegade was great but the 2 player co-operative mode in T.Renegade i loved
Yeah, I used to have problems with it crashing too (on emulators). I still play it from time to time, don't think I've ever finished it though.

Believe me I was tempted :D
Target Renegade is great too, but I think it lacks that "raw" feeling that the original Renegade had.
A two player option would have been great, as well as a more extended 128k version with more screens and more enemies.
Anyone remember Kung Fu from Bug Byte? Used to play that a lot aswell :)
I remember that! Very early game, 1984.
But I never understood how to play it..

Unless anyone knows any better?
I just loved it. But I seem to remember that it was to easy. Might give it a go sometime soon :)
Haha! You'll be saying Street Smart was brilliant next :p
But my favourite is Renegade - first class. I liked Target Renegade as well. I can't remember playing the third one though.
There was no third one ... you were imagining things, mmmkay?
Read my post above yours ... read it several times out loud ... so often that you know it to be the truth ... ok? Thank you, move along.
Well, I heard that one of the levels was literally impossible to complete because of the time limit. So take a guess!
The score on the WOS page (http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0004090) gives it 4.19 which is quite low of course.
However, I belive that many people thinks that it is a shame to make a such bad sequel to two of the best Spectrum games ever. If this game instead would have been named for example "Dino Fighter" it might have been at least ok.
I can finish Robocop though :D
Especially if it had been released by Players Premier :D
