Still love the site big time but just seems so much slower lately trying to get to the site, then click on 'games' for example.

Might be a coincidence with the 'upgrade' but since then its been very slow connecting

Yep, it's been deathly slow for me during the past couple of days as well. Sometimes the games seem to take as long to load as they would on a real Speccy!

I just played Empire Strikes Back twice, I completed it 6 and 7 times, should have had a score at least over 3 million, it seems someones changed the score length from 7 back to 6 again, and my score in game rolled around after 999,999 :(

Don't know what's gone wrong, I've tested it with Spin and it works dandy. And it did work before when I first fixed it. Its getting on my nerves now.

It was factor6 who got that score, I don't have a score up on the main site for WTHAS yet.

Your score is a good score, how many crossings did you do? I've only ever managed 3 crossings once.

only 2 , i love the game but its a tough challenge to do 3 , love the site , just managed to scrape number 1 on death star interceptor , gonna do some more later.

Yay! Managed to get into the top 10 on Hyper Sports at long last! Still haven't managed to get the vault down to a fine art, but I think I'm getting better at fluking it :P

Infuriatingly, the emulation of Shockway Rider is a bit broken meaning that the bonuses can't be collected on levels 2 and 3 due to the bags and bottles disappearing from their proper places and occasionally whizzing by the top of the screen at an incredible rate instead.

Yup I noticed that too, although I think it is possible to get the first mailbag on level 2, that was on a stand. I have no idea if the points were counted when I grabbed it, but like you say, the rest went whizzing past my head.

On a plus note, I think it seems to play easier than it used to.

I didn't like this game much and I think I put that point across on the thread about it. But for some reason I seem to be better at it now than I ever was, and actually enjoying it.

EDIT: Maybe it's the incentive of a world record that makes it more fun to play :D

Yeah, I've noticed that. Then I tried to load Mikie and the whole thing just froze up on me.

The trophies and World Champions ladder dissapeared about 6 this morning. Cybernoid doesn't load either, its a 48k snapshot. I think quite a few games don't work anymore. 48k snaphots have been used for some, and they don't all work on the 128k especially when AY is used. Shockway Rider's mailbag problem is definately a 128k bug, I've just remembered having the same problem years ago, having to load in 48k mode. Lots of games need updating with 48k snaphots for 48k games, and tap files or 128k snaphots for games that have AY. I'm not sure if there's an option to select 48k mode on the new 128k emulator.

    Added another game.

For some reason this game crashes just after start, though last week everything was O.K. Also score saving system is broken - I've had previously 6th place with 14650 pts, and now I've end up with unfair 1st place and 222222 pts.
Anybody know why? I guess it has something to do with 128 kb update of emulator

I've decided I hate Chubby Gristle, over the last 3 days or so I have gotten steadily worse at it than better, and the thing that is really getting to me other than the fact I used to be able to get much further when I was younger is the fucking music.

Ever since the upgrade I have to suffer that awful tune every time I play it and it does my head in to the next level. I've asked before but does anybody know how to switch it off?

I've pressed every key as far as I can tell and I can't turn it off, I hate it I need it removed, make it stop, it's ruining a game I used to like in 48k mode.

Start menu -> control panel -> sound -> mute? Turn volume down on speakers? Unplug speakers? Plug in headphones? :-)

When I first discovered the site I thought it was great, something new, more interactive, where actions speak louder than words (meaning genuine top scores). Started to submit some games hi score addresses and type to get some games I liked added. Great. Got a nice developer email and access to the test site. Great !. Added loads more games that got put up very quickly. Great !!!. (Starting to feel like the tiger from Frosties)

Then, 128k upgrade came along. GRRREAT !!!!!. (Now I'm so high I've hurt my head).

Then, bugs, bugs, bugs...:( down down down deeper and down............................

But to be honest, something like this site is going to be hard to maintain at the best of times, especially at the start. And the people there who maintain it seem to be very vigilant and responsive to bug reports or requests. They've done a very good job. Kind of like a lion tamer with a long stick, pointing it in the right direction to avoid being eaten. Any time anything ambitious and exciting comes along, it can get lots of flak from people who feel disappointed because their expectations are grrreat (sorry, i've had a few tonight :)). Like when the boxer Prince Nassem Hamed first came along, he was the bees knees, then when he got beat for the first time people felt so let down they turned on him. Hope this doesn't happen to MySpeccy.

Sorry, just ranting now. But anyway, my main reason for posting was to ask if the RZX file format could be enhanced for network play. That way, we'd all be able to play online and register hi scores, and even have 'visitors' watching your game live. The rzx recording could be automatically uploaded after play has finished for archiving your best score for that game so others can watch (that would silence the doubters about your mammoth score). It would probably mean no java emulator, maybe an addon to Spin, Fuse or any other rzx compatible emulator if it was possible to add this feature to the rzx file format. The way its done is like a debugger 'watching' a memory address in the game and recording its contents, it shouldn't be rocket science for the geniuses who develop some very fine emulators and file formats, the emulator could record the score (easy) and the rzx could record it (easy peasy). Just an idea. Probably could even load any game at all that doesn't need debugging to find its score in the games memory. With a recording of the best scores, we could trust people typing their final score in when the game has finished for uploading.

I don't know if anyone has ever played Fritz chess online, the program has a lobby that you log into and challenge other players to a game, or accept a challenge if you just wait a minute, or to watch a game already started between 2 players. For speccy, something similar showing the user name and what game they're currently playing and for how long they've been playing etc., with an option to watch their game. When playing a game the player should also be able to see the names of who's watching the game. That would get some pulses pumping.

    Now wouldn't that be great?

This site has made me write the longest 'drunken' post I think i've ever written. Its bad when you can't focus on the screen. :)

    FrankT :)

Edit: The site is unavailable, can't play :(

Lets hope they're just updating it or something?

It's back up again now. It went down this morning as I was playing Super Test, and it lost my bloody score of 167000!

    :-x

I think he just wants to have a live stream of the game in progress ... don't know if that request would technically fall under the RZX "format" though. But if it (the emulator) were to also provide a (faultless) RZX after gameplay then that would be an added bonus from the sound of it.

    FrankT:

I understand that the emulator sends the score back to the server on a regular basis as you're playing, yes?

When the emulator attempts to send your score back, if it can't make contact with the server, could you get it to display a message at the bottom of the window?

Something like "Warning: contact could not be made with the server - your score may not be saved". If contact is reestablished it could again let the user know that all's well.

This morning I was playing Super Test for about an hour and beat the highest score. However, when I had finished, the site was down and my score didn't register. A warning message like this would have stopped me from playing.

Or... one could temporarily pause ones game, then re-start playing (perhaps after the server is back up) ... would be cool to be able to pause, save your spot, turn off 'puter, go to bed, continue next day or whenever (but that might be a surefire way for some people to cheat, having access to an actual file, eh).

I'm not sure I understand my post myself now I'm sober !

But I suppose what I meant was for an emulator to save the rzx as a live stream rather than to disk. It would need extras for the emulator that supports rzx, like a lobby for people to log on and see who's playing what, leaderboards etc. That's if its possible to view/play an rzx that is in progress, by someone else playing over a network/internet.

Maybe for the high scores, the rzx itself could record the running score/ % complete etc, so it wouldn't just save keypresses. A database of games score locations in memory would have to be kept then.

Anyway, nevermind, it was just a drunken idea. Probably too hard to maintain.

Back to 48k only because of complaints about slowness. :(

But its now slower for me than the 128k was yesterday after the champions ladders came back.

That's a shame, was looking forward to improving my score on Super Test 128K. I hope removing the the 128k is only temporary. Perhaps the speed reduction was only coincidental, and not related to introducing the 128k stuff?. As you said, it seemed ok yesterday with 128k stuff on.

Maybe a choice between 128k and 48k would be the way forward? Not for the whole site but for certain games perhaps?

    I dunno?

Site runs as quick as it did before the upgrade, since the downgrade.

I hope they get everything sorted out soon, this is quickly becoming one of my favourite sites, and I mean that in the real sense not just like a random site you shove in your favourites folder.

Same here, although I seem to be completely crap at most games...never mind practice, practice, practice!

They've removed Kokotoni Wilf ! I had the top score! Lost 3 championship points ! No !!

I've added Anarchy. Jmk has managed to rack up a good score before I was able to announce it.

Hopefully Kokotoni Wilf will be back. It stopped registering scores. I was the victim after a long brilliant run into the modern era...failed to register at all...

Somebody has it in for me, I've dropped from 13th to 16th in just under 2 days. Better get the gaming gloves on, and clear my mind of all things negative.

It's going to be a long night :D
