Played golf for the first time ever.

edited July 2008 in Chit chat
9 holes, 3 hours, 108 strokes.

The best was 4th hole at 6 strokes.

Enjoyed the company, the walk and overall it was fun ... still don't get it as a TV-"sport" at all though.

    Boring, ain't it.
I stole it off a space ship.

Golf actually seems affordable to some degree in the USA, but from what I understand the people who play the affordable golf on the affordable courses, also go there mainly to drink gallons of affordable beer :D

I want to do it at least once, even though golf is for fat old bastards and gaylords

I'm a big sports fan but never been a fan of golf, playing or watching it. A few friends play golf but it all seems to be posey, theyre not that good but they still play at Wentworth, spend loads on clubs and that.

Good sport for oldies and lesbians though

I love a round of golf , im not very good at all , play off 23 , im easily the worst of a bunch of us who go round once a fortnight. Some of the lads are posers , couple of scruffs as well though , i got bollocked a few years back for wearing " trackie bottoms " but my mate stumped up with the excuse that id had a vasectomy and needed some loose pants , that shut the old fart up !

Love video game golf, don't mind it on the telly if it's a Sunday or I'm bunking off and can't be arsed doing anything, but have only had a couple of goes at the real thing and am completely awful at it :)

I've been down to the driving range with my mates a few times, but I just can't get the hang of it. Can't even swing a club properly. I think I've "tanged" (as my mates say) a golf ball properly like twice or something. Good laugh though!!

your grip is probably wrong, a lot of people have trouble with a wood on their first attempts.

not firmly, loose, it's not an axe. you need your little finger to rest in the space between your index and middle finger on your other hand also.

its true, on an average hole you should be hitting 3 or 4, any more than 6 and you might as well move onto the next. i suppose though most matches are freindly, so it doesn't matter much how long you take, as long as you are having fun.

Last time I went down the driving range, my mate told me that I kept bending my wrist and that I shouldn't be doing that (or something). Also, I'm not moving my hips the right way... It just doesn't look right when I swing a club, when he does it it's really smooth and "fluid" (if that's the right term to use). I'm just not cut out for golf, methinks... I'm great at Tiger Woods PGA on the PS2 though!!

ha ha very good, taking golf and making it rude, how mature.

also here is another tip. always make sure your balls are clean through out the game. remember though you can only clean your balls when you are in the rough or the fairway, cleaning your balls on the green is considered a foul. of course if you have to move your balls on the green you can give them a little polish. you may be let off if you have just been in the bunker and there is sand over your balls.

yeah keep your wrists straight, keep them stiff not limp. also you have to follow through, the swing doesn't end with hitting your ball. it's not just to look fancy. think about the whole swing, and the ball is just getting in the way, so in theory you are aiming for a spot above your left shoulder.

That's relaxing a little too much. Makes a terrible mess of the fairway.

not really you will be preforming a better swing if you are following through, hacking at the ball will most likely dig up divets, which make a mess.

A lot of people apparently also have trouble finding the hole on their first attempt, not me I was in there right away with 2 fing.............:D

Ah yes, I remember that story, you told me of it once. Wasn't their some 'mud' in that hole so when you retrieved the ball it was quite brown?

I have a terrible neck-ache and a throbbing head-ache from playing yesterday. Felt just fine before going to bed last night but now I'm stiff around the neck ... wasn't expecting this to be this much work on the body but it makes sense.

Clothes? I wore shorts, sandals (no socks) and an LOUD orange Hawaaaiiiaaan shirt ... who cares about what you are/are not supposed to wear? The other people were just in regular clothes also. Cost a little over $10 for 9 holes.

Now the head-ache is moving closer to my eyes ... *ugh* ... golf-induced migraine ... who'd have thunked it.

Where are the drugs when you need them?

Played golf once about 2 yrs ago during a hurricane...probably not the best time to try. Hitting that ball is harder than it looks.

Retired to the clubhouse after about 3 holes.
