Nah, Babylon 5 for the win!

The Atari ST special FX look a bit crap nowadays but the ongoing storyline and characters are ace.

we just got "Midnight" here in the States on Friday. And I must say, what an hour of television that was. Truly the first "behind the couch"-scary episode of the revival. Mind you, I only started watching the BBC version on BitTorrent with "Turn Left" as opposed to waiting a year for BBC America to show it (as i've said before, Sci Fi Channel cuts out anywhere between 30 seconds and 2 minutes of the show to add more commercials for sports drinks, iPods and their own dreadful TV movies during the breaks) so this was my first exposure to "Midnight". I am now far more creeped out at people repeating me than i've ever been in my life.

So, do you think that Steven Moffat will continue Russell T. Davies' idea of bringing back a villain from the original run every series? I mean we've had the Daleks, Cybermen, The Master and The Sontarans. My best guest would either be...The Rani (possibly in a similar situation as The Master?) or the Ice Warriors (you know, to be obscure).

personally I'm looking forward to the next series of the Sarah Jane Adventures... Sontaran's and the Brigadier in one two part story. Just wish he had been in the main series. ho hum

Bambera or Lethbridge? Either way, I agree that they should save ALL these special moments for the main series before shipping them off to the spin-offs. Just imagine how annoyed I'd be if Wirrn, Vervoids or Ice Warriors turned up in Torchwood before Who. 'Taint right!

Great. Just at the moment the whole world gets swallowed up into a black hole, then. The BBC really know how to scehdule.

Here in sunny melbourne I watched last night the 'pompei' episode, with the lava creatures in th volcano.......

about 2/3 the way through the episode, the lucius maximus/whatever dude with the white hair, and the stone arm points to donna noble and says 'you have something on your back'

a totally pointless statement untill..............(and i'd watched this episode two nights prior)

you watch the penultimate episode!!, where, she has something on her back, and in context making the statement from the earlier episode now make sense!!!

now, can I have a prize please

Must admit I'm looking forward to the repeats of the recent series to see the forward-referencing.

I lasted all of five minutes of the SJA series - too kiddy for me, which is understandable.

I watched the whole of SJA series 1, and struggled through the first couple of episodes of Torchwood. I have to say that it was definitely the latter which seemed more childish to me :o

    Can't wait for SJA series 2! :-)

Haha, I found in "Sarah Jane Adventures" the ZX Spectrum thingie. :)
The Mr Smith computer appeared an evil ZILOG character. :)

It's even noted in "Allusions" section of www.tv.com

    "Zilog:
Mr. Smith is a Zilog. Zilog is a microprocessor manufacturer founded in 1974. Most famous for the Z80 chip which can be found in the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Amstrad computers."

OK tonight is the US premiere of "Journey's End". I've already seen it (still plan on watching tho), but I really wonder what little scene Sci-Fi will cut out. I really bet it's the small confrontation between The Doctor, Rose and Gwen that connects Gwen to the character in "The Idiot's Latern".

Also, I should mention this: Whereas in Britian, "Doctor Who" is loved by everyone of all ages, in America, it's possibly the single nerdiest thing one could watch. I don't really know why but I guess it has something to do with the fact that most Americans identify the show with Tom Baker's portrayal (Baker is still my favourite Doctor) and the cheaper-than-usual sets of the later part of his run.

Also, this is pretty funny, Sci-Fi actually ran a preview of "Journey's End" during the credits of "The Stolen Earth", completely spoiling the episode for anyone that doesn't know what happens yet (As the last scene of "The Stolen Earth" is the Doctor "regenerating" followed by the "TO BE CONTINUED" thing, it goes directly to the bumper....prominently featuring Tennant. Sci Fi Channel seriously needs its licensing rights taken away).

I watched an american comedy that was on Channel 4 called the Big Bang Theory, about a bunch of really brainy nerdy types and one of the lines by the nerdiest character in the show was that he watched Doctor Who repeats so I guess u r correct with that :).

Yeah. That pissed me off so much... I knew, but the wife didn't... and she was really on the edge of her seat, as she adores David Tennant...
So I was going to have fun teasing her with that for a week until Sci-Fi went and pulled that crap.

    Dunno, but I'm thinking cannon-fodder.

The Xmas Special was a bit rubbish and over-indulgent, I think.

    A missed opportunity.

i thought it was good, glad to see the doctor getting a meal after so long.

I enjoyed the first half of "The Next Doctor" with all the investigative stuff and the mystery of David Morrissey's Doctor being played-out. After all that was done and we moved onto the final half it suddenly became a typical Who Christmas special with a silly plot and a big daft stay-puft cyberman stomping all over Victorian London. First half 7/10, second half 4/10.

It wasn't the best episode in the world, nor was it the worst episode.

    Pros:
The general idea of someone thinking he is the Doctor with assistant
David Morrissey (he could be the next Doctor)
    The Cybermen's return

    Cons:
    The huge Cyberman
    The woman villian
    The subplot involving the undertakers

I actually fell asleep during it and missed most of it. I was very tired all day and the big meal I had beforehand didn't help. Hopefully it will be repeated. It usually is. :)

    Will watch only today.
They're going to change the Doctor again...?
I'm gonna cut myself. Unless it's Christopher Eccleston.
    Ha-ha.

I had a thought about Doctor Who, he is going to be at the end of his generations limit soon which i think is 12, do you think that the reason they gave the doctor a daughter was so that when the 12th doctor dies there is another timelord ready to continue ?
  • edited December 2008
Probably not, if the show's still popular they'll just ignore the 12 regenerations thing.

true, the master used up his regenerations or something, and it has been mentioned that regenerations can be reset and you'd get a whole new bunch. (i think the time lords offered the master that in 'the five doctors')

If he does reach his limit they make a point of coming up with a reason, but yes they'd work around it.

i think tennent is the tenth. if you don't regard him dying in the last episode of the last series.
  • edited December 2008
Maybe after his 12th regeneration he'll still be allowed to change, but have to be 'struck off' or become a nurse or a chiropodist or something.

Now, I'm rather behind everyone here, as I've only watched Dr Who in bits and pieces since it's return, but, I'm making progress. I've just got through the first 3 episodes from series 3. I'm quite enjoying it, but am I the only person who was very dissapointed with what "The Face Of Boe" had to say? For all the build up to his big reveal of his final words, all he said was "you are not alone". I thought it was going to be something more important than that.

If you haven't got there yet, you'll see the importance of those words, and who actually said them :)
