Since yesterday I've been reading how great book 2 is, I didn't even know it was ready to order until yesterday maybe 2 days ago at the most?

    Was it announced?

Was I so drunk I didn't even realise???

I'll be ordering mine next payday I guess :D

Wahey ! Finally have my copies !

Book 2 can be bought from lulu here...

    http://www.lulu.com/content/2930319

300+ reviews, 370 pages (100 pages more than book 1), only a quid more at ?8.95. Lots and lots of reviews and trips down memory lane.

Black and white , colour covers. Very pleased with it, lot thicker than book 1 obviously. Now back to creating book 3 !

    yay, well done.

i can finally write my 'ninja hamster' review. probably the best speccy game ever released.
  • edited July 2008
Gonna have to try that game out ! Sounds quite amusing, look forward to your review !
  • edited July 2008
Consider mine buyed. Good work, fellas :)
  • edited July 2008
Cheers. Feel free to contribute for books 3-6. If theres a game not listed then feel free to write a review for it, more the merrier. Also if anyone wants to do reviews of some of the best text adventures then please let me know, would like to see more adventure games in there.

Dont make spam you with my 'have you done it yet' emails ;)

Cheers fella, cant wait to see the reviews for book 3. Two of the core years of the Speccy.

I had that problem with my real speccy. I was playing "Rebelstar II" (for review purposes, obviously) and it completely sucked up hours and hours life. Again. Julian Gollop needs saluting for his talents, but also needs punching for all the time I'll never get back from his bloody games.

I had the odd email off him, when i did Rebelstar - Search for the ION Gun (Dont laugh its a platform designer game !) i asked him if i could 'grab' the graphics from Rebelstar and he was fine, probably embarassed if anything !

Rebelstar I i still play a lot, trying different ways to attack and different skill levels, eg all at once through a door or in different places to meet up later.

Rebelstar II i really liked just wish it didnt end after is it 40 turns ? Wanted it to carry on until i died.

There's a couple of stinkers there but I'm still familiar with about 6 of those 10 games, I'm just dreading having to play Alternative World Games again. I didn't think it was totally awful but it was far from the best  I downloaded it almost 2 weeks ago for the purpose of some pre-review research. Never got round to it yet though, read the reviews from the major mags, one said it was OK and 2 said it was shite basically.

I wonder how it will be after all this time?

Yeah its funny when you remember a game from years back and sometimes its just aged so badly.

Reminds me of Alan Partridge when he got this comedian he watched as a kid at Butlins and then realised after all this time that he was terrible and those rose tinted memories seemed so distant !

I've discovered a fair few new games due to the reviews and a few which i used to miss out for whatever reason but should give more gameplay to.

I just had a dig about, didn't I send you Stormbringer as well? I remember writing it, I'm pretty sure I sent it to you?

I have to say that the thank you message when you order book give me a bit of a fright:

"Book 2 will be shortly available, 100 more pages, 300+ reviews, just a pound more thank Book 1.
    "

Had to go back and check that I had actually ordered book 2.
  • edited July 2008
Ha ha sorry about that ! Was sure i had changed the 'thankyou' email it generates, i'll double check.

Cheers for buying a copy, feel free to do any reviews for books 3-6 or reviews for any games which arent actually listed (more the merrier)

    Update on Book 3

Coming along nicely, up to 180 pages but without screenshots so it'll be a fair few pages more.

I don't know what they guy who did the Fred review in book 1 was smoking but I want some.

Fred is one of my fav Spectrum games, but smooth scrolling and Fred don't go together.
  • edited July 2008
Ha ha good point ! Mark writes some great reviews and his Fred one is very good apart from like you say 'smooth scrolling' ;) Back in 84 it wasnt bad though.

Actually prefer this game than Sir Fred, found that too frustrating.

    Is that book 2 ?

Really like this one, lots in there. Amazing how many great games there were released back then and also how many games you recognise.
