Any Farscape fans here?

I picked up a boxed set from a chairty shop the other week, first 4 episodes with some bonus stuff. Not as shit as I thought it would be.

It's kinda Buck Rogers meets Babylon/Space Nine so far.

Does it get better, or wosrse after the first 4.

I'm on episode 3 now.

Altough the wholen thing does smack of, "hey, you know that scene in Star Wars where they were all in the bar, with the aliens?" big toke on spliff "well, man, imagine, right, just imagine, if we like riped off Star Trek, and puppets, we need some puppets, and right lets have a kilingon that's not a klingon, and lots of beep beep noises and, um stuff"

despite that, it's kinda okay

Isn't that the show with the really fit-alien-nympho woman?!

EDIT: Yeah, it is!! This bird... She's great!! I haven't seen many episodes, but like you say, it's not as bad as I thought it'd be.

MASSIVE fan here and very very annoyed still that Stargate SG-1 killed it.

Yes the first few episodes are very derivative of other types of shows (particularly the dismal Jeremiah Crichton episode). But it gets fantastic. Wait til you see classic episodes such as Revenging Angel in Season 3.

If you go the whole way, make sure you get the phenomenal Peacekeeper Wars too.

It's a fantastic series which just kept getting better. The first few episodes lead you to think it's just run-of-the-mill sci-fi stuff, but without spoiling anything it gets a lot more involved & intelligent than most sci-fi.

The nympo-woman is Chiana, played by Gigi Edgley, although not quite as fruity as Lyekka from Lexx.

The series gets so weird that the writer had a bit of a breakdown and apologized, admitting that he had actually gone a bit mad. The series was cancelled after that, but returned for a fantastic finale. Brilliant series in all, that I truly believe takes its inspiration from the Speccy game, 'The Great Space Race.' You will adore the last episode forever, so stay with it, no matter what happens. It's worth it.

I remeber watching it on BBC 2 quite some time ago. The first season or two were quite good, but I found myself getting REALLY pissed off with that blue woman and that dude with the Kano mask from Mortal Kombat crying all the bloody time, so I stopped watching it. The early episodes were great though :)

I really enjoyed Farscape; much more to my liking than the more conventional (and popular) stuff around at that time such as Babylon 5 or Stargate. I even bought some of the companion books, which is something I rarely do for TV series. Inventive, imaginative and unusual stories and characters, with excellent SFX, costumes, makeup and production design. Some of the zanier or chaotic or sentimental episodes weren't much to my liking, but overall I thought that it was a very commendable & innovative entry in the genre. A shame it was cut off in its prime, but at least the cast were later reunited for a rather good feature-length story to finish things off. Adored Chiana (the hyper-active blue girl), although her story developed quite tragically.

it's a rather excellent series when watched on dvd, back to back

the story arcs well, it's a shame it ended so quickly, however, the film, the peacekeeper wars sums it up fairly well!

Farscape was made in Australia, actually...

Really enjoyed it, only missed a couple of episodes when it was shown originally. It was a lot more than "Muppets in Space".

And there may be more to come. A new graphic novel is due out, and then a series of web episodes...

    Actually I had a thought.

Watch the entire series all the way through for the full four seasons. Then WAIT..... wait... wait...

    A FULL TWO YEARS!!!!!!

Then watch Peacekeeper Wars - and you will love it all the more!

Yeah, I loved Farscape. It is rather slow and pedantic at times..and the fight scenes are not that polished..and I got fed up of wormhole secrets and overly drawn out plots...but overall..it's a great show..plus as someone noted..it's got a few sexy aliens.
I stole it off a space ship.

I borrowed season 1 off a mate in early 2005, and got about 4 episodes in and didn;t really like it. I was told it starts to get good from about half way into series one and really kicks off when
    Spoiler:

So, several months on I decided to carry on watching it and my mate was indeed correct, and I flew through the rest of season 1 and season 2 and ended up buying the full 4 series in the 'purple coffin' DVD boxset shortly after along with the peace keeperwars.

The series got better and better with a story arc that spans across all 4 series and this stops Farscape from beng just another "Alien menace of the week fest" like the original Star Trek (and TNG series to a fair degree). Farscape had ideas and storylines that had not been explored to the same depth in any other show before - ideas that may have been used for one novelty episode in other series, but in Farscape were sustained through half a series and it worked because the writing was so intelligently done and well thought out.

If you stick with Farscape then by the end you will have laughed, cried, even suffered a (very) few crap episodes, but you will never regret watching it.
