One did not want to incriminate oneself on any level, so one kept gob shut. Seriously though, they left their kids on their own. What responsible parent does that when you can't see them or protect them? I can't quite get my head around that one.

The whole thing stinks, to be honest.

I thaught that very early on, during the time when everyone began putting posters up.

If the girl was missing, hiring a PR firm to handle things that early on was going to make the poor girl very hot property. Calling sky news the night of her disapearance was a very stupid thing to do for such an educated couple.

Any potential kid napper, gang etc would have killed and hidden the body in blink.

That link you gave confirms my suspicions that they did it them selves, what for?? I dont know....

One theory is that to go out for a meal they used to knock the kids out with anesthetics. Only in this case it when't wrong so they are covering their tracks.

The blood found in the car hired one month after she had disapeared, very fishy.

    To play Devil's advocate.

After 11 hours of interrogation in which it will have become apparent that the police think you have abducted your own child, I think you would be a bit head f***ed and start getting uncooperative.

    On the leaving children front.....

My daughter starts school in september. I was talking to my mum the other day. I couldn't ever remember being taken to school. She said no one took kids to shool. From the age of 5 all kids just walked themselves. It was about a mile to school and back, no parents thought anything of it and no teachers thought there was anything amiss.

We used to go on holiday to Butlin's in the 70's no one thought it unusual to leave kids in the chalet in the evening. (Chalet is probably not the best way to describe Butlin's accomodation!)

On holiday in Yugoslavia, (before the wars), I was going to nightclubs when I was 14.

    How times change.

Interesting questions when you read the ones she didnt answer, eg she ran to the 'Tapas 7' and left the twins alone (when the 'attacker' could have taken them).

Plus saying she was abducted straight away when anything could have happened as it was early moments, child could have got lost etc.

I personally think there was a tragic accident (eg too many sleeping tablets etc) and they covered it up.

If my kid went missing i would answer every single question there was thrown at me.

Yes complete selflessness is what any normal parent would do. If it meant getting one step closer to your missing daughter any normal parent would not care one jot that they were possibly incriminating themselves and would answer anything to the best of their ability.

    This case stinks bad.

The initial media over-reaction has not become a big embarrisment to all involved in it.

don't forget that supposedly they also gave them sleeping pills...quite recomended for 3 year old kids...

I reckon that most people that speak up in 100% defence of them, are trying to wash away their own guilt for leaving kids unattended at times in their lives.

I'm treading a middle lane on this one, neither condeming nor justifying, but they must take the blame for leaving their kids unattended.

and for ruinning portuguese turism...we live of that you know? now every guy from the british islands think we are babby knapper and that our police is incompetent...
  • edited August 2008
Cant believe thats true, obviously maybe that resort but surely tourism figures arent down that much because of Maddie ?

I saw on the news today that beaches in Spain are empty and theyre having their worst summer in years because of the credit crunch.

But i cant believe people avoid Portugal because of the sad Maddie situation ?

Unfortunately it is absolutely guaranteed to have an adverse effect.

Looks like the press is back in silly season mode over this - now any sighting of a young girl with long hair is treated as a possible "Maddie" sighting.

Still, *something* has to fill the newspapers these days beyond paedos, asylum seekers, naked celebs and Diana.

Cant beat a good bear-baiting style story about kiddie fiddlers though and a judge given them a 2 day community service.

That's news to me. I was in Mallorca last week. The flights to and from were full, and the hotels were also full (we had two extra Germans show up and they couldn't get a room anywhere in S'Arenal).

I think the papers like to stir the mud about this credit crunch thing, and are making it out to be more far reaching than it is.

It was all on GMTV and BBC1 this morning. They were on some of the main beaches and the restaurants etc were saying how quiet it is this year in Spain.

Sounds good, wouldnt mind going now knowing i wont have to fight a ger, i mean person for a sunlounger and it'll be less busy.

Given that Spain is an hour or too behind us, at that time of the morning do you expect tourists to be on the beaches and eating in restaurants. Especially not after the all day and late night mountain of booze that the tourists of those kinds of resorts get though.

    :p

    Always a clever one ! ;)

Seriously the bar owners were saying how generally theyre taking much much less than the last 10 years or so so they've noticed a huge change. Costa Del Sol is normally packed out (I used to go there every year) but theyre saying how its one of the most quiet summers in years.

Like i say it sounds ideal as its not that busy, wish i could go now !!

Surprised Scottie 'Alan Whicker around the world' UK isnt travelling there ! ;)

Not sure I buy the 'drugged her up too much' theory. If so then why the blood traces?...not like you would have to chop up a small childs body to get rid of it.

    Doh,

Still my point still holds ground, british tourists don't get up before mid day, it's why the Germans get all the sun beds.
