MP3 player annoyances and computer questions

Allright, firstly, my MP3 player has taken a turn for the worse, and has done so in just the same way as have all my previous MP3 players: the sound does no longer transmit to the left headphone unless I hold the plug at a particular angle, same as what happened to my last one and the one before. Am I treating them all wrong? Is it a simple fix? Am I too optimistic in thinking it's just a solder joint needing touching up?

So for my second question, I don't really want to start a new thread, I'm also a bit pissed off by my BIOS disabling my onboard graphics after putting in a new graphics card, so I'm looking at ways to use the second video output on the card, which inconveniently is something wierd and new like a DVI or HDMI or whatever. (after having typed that I wikied it and verified it to be a DVI connection - thankfully the adapters for this to VGA are significantly cheaper than is the case for HDMI) Will an adapter reduce the quality of the picture I get?

i think that happens with all personal audio equipment, ive never had a walkman, mp3 player, or cd player that hasn't developed a similar sort of issue. i think the constang plugging and unplugging of the jack gradually wears the connecting elements and causes the problem. its handy for the electronics company who can then sell you the new model.

I've not noticed a difference with mine.

Shouldn't do. If you PM me your address I can probably send you one of my spares, gratis.

I was going to say the exact same thing. My current MP3 player is holding out fine at the moment though, but that is probably because I never unplug my earphones. It's always the left ear that goes first though isn't it?
