painkiller: mixed feelings

edited September 2008 in Chit chat
bought and played painkiller, oh my

passing by a newspaper store briefly saw ad for painkiller in some pc revue mag - new 3D shooter, fps and so on, but wasn?t really reading the title, just... the pictures

later that day in a store stumbled across the dvd and mindlessly shoved it to my basket full of food... erhm

just now realized, what I?ve done
got mixed feeling about the ?product?
graphics is awesome, sounds and music too
atmospheare is great and resembles good ol? Blood - what a bloody raw meat massacre that was! :)
but after a while you?ll soon realize it?s just another Serious Sam - neverending shooting of swarming masses of the undead creatures...
almost no story at all, or at least the story doesn?t matter

would love to enjoy the horror atmosphere and the story too with this graphics and physics... but
I DIDN?T READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE!!! :D

    I DIDN´T READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE!!! :D

That doesn't matter, magazine reviews haven't been accurate since the early 90's anyway ;)

Oopss.. I thought you meant "Painkiller" by Judas Priest, which is a good album!

Blood was good, but it's sequel wasn't*. But I wouldn't compare Painkiller to Serious Sam, as Serious Sam was a *lot* of fun, whilst PainKiller was OK but repetitive. Just my opinion, but from what I remember of the reception of the two games I think that I'm in the majority (so this is what it feels like ).

    * Speaking of Blood, it's irritating that it's source code was never released to the public, as the other two really good Build ("Build" being the name of the game engine) games, the very good Shadow Warrior and the brilliant Duke Nukem 3D both had their sources released and were ported to the XBox (very important for a PC hating gamer like me).

Ha blood and shadow warrior 2 of the best FPS type games ever made.

Ah now that takes me back to my late teens, bloody hell I think it was 11 or 12 years ago when I first played those!!!

    How time flies :D

I/II SS had some really cool jokes and game-ideas that rocks (mainly second part),
but was absolutely unplayable.. could?n t make it without cheats from third leven on,
    even on easiest "tourist" difficulty
just don?t get it these manic shooters... perhaps it?s more suitable for "angry german kid" type of personalities
(I mean the youtube a.g.k., if you remember that video)

Heh, finished both of the first two games on normal difficulty - still can, as a matter of fact :)

I hate games that generate new enemies (or inhabitants) of the level when you killed some. And most games do, like the GTA games for example. It completly destroys the experience for me when clearly the game just exists "around" me.
Inhabitants of the game should move around doing their daily business regardless if i?m there or not!
It was possible in the eighties (Boulder Dash, Everyone?s a Wally) so why so few games now?
There are some, Hitman series, Freedom Fighters, but game developers are just too lazy making clever games since graphics is the main selling point anyway.

Who would've ever thought that mint and chillies would work together so well?
