My new council tax payment book arrived today...

edited September 2008 in Chit chat
Stone me, I don't like going political on WOS, but a 4.2% rise on last year? I just don't get it - to make matters more annoying, as a teacher I'm paid by the council, who then a week later want a big whack of it back to pay for my bins to be collected.

I've half a mind to set fire to myself, break both my legs, then go and attack someone, just so I can call 999, ask for all three, and get some value for money from the emergency services.

</rant>

PS. I feel like Lurcio looks in my avatar (though slightly less camp)...

I probably ought not to talk about my rates then, in case the UK WOSsers beat me up because of it.

Bedford is becoming a unitary authoirity, at least I can aim all my hate at one place now. Tax rises stupid.

edit: and I just realised you live in Bedford too, I never noticed that before. You might spot me out and about then, I'm not hard to miss. :D

I came downstairs this morning to find a suspicious brown envelope on the doormat, and I was right to be suss when I realised it came from Bedford County Council. The missus was still asleep, and I needed to vent my opinion somewhere, and I thought WOS was as good a place as any :D.

And as for the price of I can't believe it's not butter... Don't get me bloody started on the cost of living!

THX - yeah, had spotted before that you're in Bedford. I moved last year, after living in Luton for a year. I'll keep an eye out for you.

MattLamb-> Your day is starting off interestingly. In one mailbox you get a tax-hike and in the other you get shaved cats. It's a funny world, eh? :-)

Indeed. One wonders what might be next. This could turn into an episode of One foot in the Grave. Maybe I'll phone for a taxi and a Matchbox car will turn up.

Oh good. i hear in Scotland they want to scrap the head tax and bring in american style local taxes..imagine that with 50% unemployment. Revenue..2 pounds and 54p.

Anyhoo, the ruling party which only 23% of scotland voted for won't allow that.
I stole it off a space ship.

At least the council tax isn't going up at the same rate as energy. Now that is a total rip-off and I see the our wages don't rise to match all the increases...

Some politician said the reason for that is that if we all got big rises to match the rise in energy inflation would go sky high, or so he said.....

Be glad you don't live in London. Those poor sods are being stiffed for the cost of the Olympics on their [strike]Poll[/strike] Council Tax.
Ah how we loved the Poll tax and the feeling of togetherness it generated....
