Help Identifying a Game
Hello fellow Spectrophiles (now legal in 28 countries!),
I need your expert help in identifying a particular game I used to play when I was but a lad, so that I can indulge in severe overdoses of nostalgia and depression. I don't remember the name, publisher or year of the game, so I'll have to describe it as best I can from memory.
The game is set underwater, and the player character is what I believe to be some sort of frogman/scuba diver (the game is not "Scuba Diver", however).
The perspective of the game was a sort of pseudo-3D, very similar to this:

That screenshot is quite accurate, actually, because the game in question was also very dark, and most of the "scenery" was green from what I can recall. The levels seemed to be some kind of underwater labyrinth, with archways and brick walls and such.
The gameplay was focused around finding treasure chests, and probably other items. There were most likely baddies to deal with, but I cant remember any of them.
The player character swims around, and is always in a horizontal position as a result.
That's about all I can remember, unfortunately. I hope you guys can help!
Thanks for your time :D

Or Hydrofool?
Oops, sorry Madmekon :-)
EDIT: No it isn't, just checked it in the archive... Can't remember the name of the game I'm thinking of!!
http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0002408
That's the one I was thinking of... Don't know why I thought it was called Feud!! Silly me!!
It's definitely not 3DC, but Hydrofool rang a distant bell with me, so I cranked it up in my Spectrum emulator and played it for a minute or two. I'm 95% sure this is not the game I'm after, either.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again :D
BTW Welcome to WoS!
What's the significance of 4.9k? The size of your avatar?
You know, the more I think about it the less sure I am of the game's pseudo-3D perspective...there's a small chance that I'm misremembering and that it's just a plain old 2D side-scroller, with the option of moving "up" into the next room. If you know what I mean haha. Here's a quick MS Paint representation of what I'm talking about:

Now that I've drawn this pic, I'm leaning more towards this as being the truth of the matter...
Sorry for the confusion...it's been about 15 years! :p
Devils of the deep?

Does this game have the same sprite as Hydrofool? A little bit of Price-esque antickery Methinks :D
I was actually going to say Devils Crown but Devils of the deep came to mind as it has a spazzy looking chubby stickman and it could be pseudo 3D? Devils crown has had a few mentions today, I wish they'd put it on Myspeccy :D
I think the only person who would kick my arse at it would be Mile.
@dm_boozefreek: Haha I was gonna say the same thing - that sprite looks almost identical to the Hydrofool one.
Thanks for your efforts chaps, much appreciated.
Keep 'em comin'!
I wish I could remember something more specific about it...it seems that every other Spectrum game out there has a similar premise. I mean, every game suggested here so far could fit the bill. Baaah!
I may have to resort to checking the screenshots for every single game ever made for this system. Or maybe it'll be covered in those Spectrum Bible books I've seen advertised :D
Cheers dudes/dudettes.
Only the diver that was correct..
You are, by the way, sure that it is was set under-water? Did the hero walk on the bottom of the sea or swimmed?
The second level is green:
I'm gonna start sifting through the screenshots in the archive, I'm bound to stumble across it eventually!
Thanks guys, it's great to see so much determination to help out a guy no one even knows :D
Fantastic Voyage / Blood'n'Guts
Ok, so the question is still if it is 2D or 3D? There are probably several hundred, if not thousands, of 2D games, but relatively few 3D, so a 3D-one would narrow it down much!
Do you have any clue if it was an early (like 82 to 84), "middle" (perhaps 85-89) or late (90+)?
That could of course take some time.. Unfortunaly I don't think you can search for 3D/isometric games directly and there is something like 20.000 titles in the archive!
You will see that WOS is a friendly place! Glad you are here!
yeah dont loose heart paddy, this thread will carry on for months until we find your game.
More seriously, Thunder Jaws perhaps? It is green and has divers at least.

It does have a green border (if we're still focusing on plenty of green)
(SORRY dial-up users! OVER 700k)

With regards to the 3D/2D question, I think the image I supplied in this post is most likely the correct "dimension". It's difficult to remember haha. As for the era the game was released, I really have no clue.
I can't disagree - WoS has been an incredibly friendly place thus far! :D
Thanks mate. I don't want to cause any more trouble than necessary haha; don't put yourself/selves out too much :p Everything that's been done so far goes beyond the call of duty, so from here on it's all bonus.
I didn't even know there was a JAWS game for the ZX! Can't believe I missed that one. To answer your question, no, neither of these games are the game I have had stuck in my head for the past decade and a half...man I really need some sort of hobby, or a few months of Speccy Recovery Counselling.
Welcome to the quest! This ain't the game, though :D
Nopey McNopington!
When I started this thread I was thinking "How many underwater games involving scuba divers can there possibly be?" lol. Maybe this whole thing was a little too optimistic.
Many thanks to everyone, again :)
