It's astonishing that Europe and the US won't help them out, but Russia will.

Anyone else think that the West is running out of money?

I opened an online account with Icelandic bank Kaupthing Edge about 3 weeks ago.

Though, luckily I had problems logging into the account online, so i didn't put any money in there.

Blimmin' glad now, considering all that's happened over the past few days.

the rich are moving all the money out to the far east now. a lot more profit to be made out there. we will just have to do without from now on - our life time anyway.

I opened one account here in Sweden three months ago and put some savings in. Aware of the risk with Iceland and their banking system, and predicting potential chaos, decided to take it out this last Sunday. Today I get an email saying they are closing the local Kaupthing branch and returning all the money with interest.

So, I lost three months of interest - it was paid yearly at a rate of 5.55%. No biggie. Was pretty much sure that deposits were covered by both the Icelandic and Swedish state, just that I didn't want any hassle.

They should just skip the EU and join NAFTA ... or perhaps allow Greenland to govern them (join old Danmark by proxy) ... that might finally fix that whole "Greenland is white and Iceland is green" mixup.
