I'm all excited now and I feel guilty for joking about slipping deadlines now. I didn't care when it was just your life you where giving up but now it's going to be extra pretty I care. Shallow I know, but honest ;)

To be honest, the only probable reason for lateness would be lack of CPU cycles :o
And this is a beast of a machine that it's rendering on.
Oh, and this is a special - it breaks the mold of the regular year-by-year documentary, is self-contained, and will be much longer than a single chapter.
Just tried creating a DVD of MPEG2-encoded footage - wow. The compression's really good (around 25% larger than MPEG1, I'd say), and the picture quality when played on a proper DVD player is stunning.
Hands up all those who'd be interested in downloading a DVD ISO image of the Xmas special when the time comes?

BUT - don't expect a full-on DVD, with menus, easter eggs, and the full works. This year I'll just be happy to get a DVD-quality image displayed on my telly :)
And this ISO will strictly be an ISO, effectively a beta, and just me dipping my toe in the water to see how well it works. And it will be *just* the Xmas Special. Don't expect a DVD of the whole documentary series for a few years yet.
A standard VCD-quality MPEG1 file will always be on offer for everything I release - it's the most portable video format out there, and seeing my movies on all sorts of weird and wonderful gadgets is just too cool to describe :)
I must get around to updating the What's New page with all of this...
As you know, the Xmas special is made up of little parts, each about 1.5 mins long, plus or minus a few seconds as I want sections to end when a song section ends (no cross-fades here, more of a dice-and-slice).
Two things I've just realised:
1) the soundtrack so far sounds *really* good, and
Well stop wasting your time posting shit. Get to work!

Pretty much why I didn't do a book of my own!
Right now I'm reading a Spanish phrase book whilst packing. It's got a section on chatting people up, which I'm sure will come in useful in business meetings with big seamen.

and whenever we are down we will look at that post and be happy.*
*good through March 2009 ;)
Soon is, more often than not, not soon enough.
The definition is vague enough for my liking :)
But I'm aiming for a 2008 release.
when soon is too soon you can get sprays if soon is not soon enough find a partner with more stamina or of a different gender.
I'll wait for the Blu-Ray version :-P

*cough*
Assuming a 30-minute special, file sizes will be ~300MB for the VCD version, ~750MB for the DVD version.
Yikes.
Once I know for sure it's going to be finished this year, I'll sort out distribution...
Just updated it with the info I've given on here, plus a few other tidbits.
memememememe!!!!!!!!!!
Can you upload to Newsgroups though please? :)
Cheers Nick
*grin*
I won't do that, but I've no problems with anyone else doing that so long as it's unmodified.

2) this could run to 40 minutes... yikes...
Oh yes, most definitely. You can't have Xmas without a few dumadums...
That's what I like to hear :D
It's "almost" not too early anymore :p
Heh, I started planning all of this back in June...
Shame, 'cos I've already done 25 mins of it.
We'll see how it goes.
Yeah, truly ... no happy ending :-(
