My obsession...
Trying to remember quite what I did in the 80's and when I did it is quite hard, as I was a way little tyke and it's all a blur. But I was really surprised to find an old diary I had from 1987, in which I had written a few entries, but obviously had given up out of boredom. Feb 27th has one entry - "Finally got Space Harrier POKE to work! Completed the game!"
Feb 28 has one entry too -"Tried Scooby Doo poke again and again, but doesn't work!"
And at the back there is a year planner, where you write in the little boxes, what special events are coming up, like holidays etc. And what had I written in the March 26th box? "Crash!" And indeed, in other boxes, I had done something similar. I didn't even know this diary existed, but I must have been obsessed with the Spectrum and videogaming back then, I really must have, to use a year planner to remind me when the new "Crash" was coming out. And all those years later, I still read those old issues, which is quite a poignant thing for me.
So what's the question? Ehhh... oh yes! Has anyone else discovered things they had from the 80's that show how much they were into it back then, like for example, little review magazines they made by themselves? Or did you do something really naff? This may have been asked donks ago, but I'd like to hear anyway :)

Once a month, three things are repeated:
"S.U. out"
"Y.S. out"
"Crash out"
I still wonder how I could afford all three every month, and I wonder even more where all my old issues are now :(.
Fantastic! That's what it's all about! I used to get the Beano Calendars too back in the mid/late 80s funnily enough...:)

A Chopper !! wow, second hand, but it was awesome.
Oh and did you know there doing some limited edition of them as i type this, only ?250 or was it ?350 either way I WANT ONE NOW !!!
Cornishdavey, I heard something on Radio 2 the other day about them re-releasing the Chopper. I missed them first time round, as I was an 80s child. Maybe I should see what all the fuss was about.

I would ask if they could send me information on their latest games.
Most replied (except for OCEAN and US GOLD i remember....pah!), and I got tons of glossy posters and literature.
The best replies I got were from ULTIMATE, VORTEX, SOFTWARE PROJECTS, and HEWSON (loads of huge glossy posters etc.), and from MICROSPHERE, a hand written letter!
Goes to prove ---
great companies = great games (Ultimate).
Idle uncaring companies = Shoddy buggy games, and crap ST ports on the Amiga (Ocean)

As for the Chopper, yeah should be around anytime now, but they MOVED THE FUC!!NG GEAR CHANGE ! Bastards.... Will have to get a kit and move it back to were it should be, on the bar.
Bloody health and safety ARGGGGGGGGG!
The other thing I had was a thick file full of cuttings, posters, poke tear-aways, maps, etc. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anymore.
Bytes:Chuntey - Spectrum tech blog.
And getting back to the Spectrum, just for the fun of it I can remember mapping totally pointless games like Target Renegade, which is 100% linear so who needs a map???
