Dan Dare III

edited November 2008 in Games
Has anyone ever completed this game proper? I've just been playing it for my review for Paul's excellent book, got all the fuel, went back to the store and blasted off, only to be told I crashed into the doors.

Does anyone know how to win?

There is probably RZX file of Dan Dare 3. Watch it and learn ;)
ZX Spectrum +2 & PicoDiv SD,
    Timex 2048 & divIDE 57c

Just checked the code and it seems to be the only possible ending. You either get the don't have enough fuel yet message or the well done star fighter and crash into the doors message.

I know little about programming ... but I was thinking ... is it possible that the DDIII "engine" was used in Extreme?

Not surprising, both games were written by David Perry and Nick Brunty.

I loved their graphics - but hated their game 'engine'.

It was just the way sprites had absolutely no weight to them - everything moved way too fast.

Captain Planet, SmashTV (I've ranted about this game enough!), Turtles (TMHT), Quartet and Dan Dare 3 all had this problem which was a shame cos they all looked ace.

It really messed up their difficulty curve - Captain Planet was virtually impossible! An array of brightly coloured beautifully animated 'things' just threw themselves at you from the right of the screen whilst your oversensitive sprite helplessly twitched around the screen in a pathetic attempt to avoid them - It was a technicolour massacre!

I made it to the first boss a few times - Never did figure out how to kill him...

For some reason TMHT was far too easy.

Duh, that makes sense now ... I had seen the computers(or one of the screens) in the other game called DAV and NIK iIrc.
