Erm... there's going to be a 4th one
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

    real shame that.

been a big fan of his.

    some of my faves

    andromeda strain
    jurrasic park
    time line
    west world
    next
    prey

must say though, three of those books had people using science to create a theme park, which got a bit samey. but it did show how major leaps in technology will be used in some sort of commercial scheme.

    great writer, great loss.

airports will be panicking now. :-D

    I hope James P. Hogan isn't next ... he and M.C. share a similar ingenuity/creativity.

Westworld and Andromeda Strain were his best work in my opinion. JP was basically WW with dinosaurs.

    Sad news.

Fuck, I forgot about those two. Both are seriously excellent films. I do have The Andromeda Strain novel, but haven't got round to reading it.

its a great book, i read it before i saw the film. if anything the book isn't dated at all. you could easily say it is set in contempary times. it was the first novel i ever read of his and i think the first that i would describe as a 'couldn't put down' book. there are a few he has written like that. airframe being another, but with a not so satisfying pay off at the end.

i think his best work has been jurasic park and timeline. (nothing to do with the movies)

JP was such an original and crazy idea. i can imagine him pitching it to the publishers. 'so it's a theme park with cloned dinosaurs? what have you been smoking?' and done so well too with lots of suspense and understandable science bunged in.

timeline was done in much the same way. a great start that made you want to rad on to see what was going on. it was a little contrived how the company used their new technology. but it was a great update on 'a yankee in the court of king arthur'. gripping read.

west world. top film. yul briner was awesome in it, very scary very sinister without even acting, just hitching his thumbs in his jeans and walking. much more of a threat than a lumbering arnie. and if i went id go for roman world, he he kinky.

eaters of the dead. great book until i found out it was bunk. good film adaptation tho.

The book of JP1 was great. A lot better than the film (which is good aswell, but more of a family film).

I was really disappointed with the book of JP2. It was like he couldn't make up his mind about the original script and decided to put the rejected characters in the same situation as the first film.

I remember thinking Disclosure was a fantastic read (and the technology in it is far superior to the technology in the film iirc). Probably very dated by now, but I might read it after I've finished Rose Madder.

    Interesting that.

I've always rated the novel of Jurassic Park much higher than the movie, but the movie of The Lost World: Jurassic Park much higher than the novel. Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I say that though.

Sad to hear Micheal Crichton's passed away. RIP.

I liked the second movie better than the book aswell.

The book just seemed to be a complete rehash of the first one whereas the film was more like a different thing altogether.
