This may seem a bit off the wall but I feel Plains, Trains and Automobiles also works as a Christmas movie.

You mean The Winter Train of Cheese. There are not many films I didn't hate Tom Hanks in. This isn't one of them.

    *grin*

I love it - probably because it's *not* made by Disney/Pixar. Beautiful 3D animation work, too.

    Gremlins :D

I quite liked 'Bad Santa' too

Yes, I was going to mention Gremlins too.

Also from the '80s we have Scrooged

    and of course

    National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

Here's one you won't hear very often:-

    "Quincy's Quest" (1979) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0290819/
featuring the British entertainer, Tommy Steele!

I can't actually remember if it is any good or not - but they used to show it on TV back in the eighties. I have very vague memories of watching it as a child. Hasn't been on TV for years AFAIK.

Well, it's set in Christmas IIRC and they always show it around Christmas.

Then again ITV used to always show "Breakdance: The Movie" (1984, aka breakin') on new year's eve, but I never understood why!

    Scrooge (1951) with Alistair Sim
The Polar Express - Has any one seen it in 3D Imax ?
    Mickey's Christmas Carol.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation - The sledging scene !!!!

Sorry, slightly off-topic but I found a picture of this Christmas album earlier today

    Cover.jpg

    "Oh sh*t, it's Christmas..."

Not sure if it's a real album or just some silly spoof though!

Other ones I often watch are

A Christmas Carol (The the one with Patrick Stewart & Richard E Grant).

    Muppet's Christmas Carol

    and

    Blackadder's Christmas Carol

I still never saw the Alastair Sim version of Scrooge all the way through yet - but hopefully will do at some point.

Doesn't every school have someone in it who looks a little bit like that?

I think we might have had at least two of 'em

You know I generally don't like christmas movies, especially christmas movies with Tim Allen.

But for some bizarre reason I like Christmas with the Kranks, I think Dan Akroyd maybe saves it, as he is the typical christmas obsessed white suburbanite.

People like the people in that movie generally make me sick and I'd like to fucking stab them all with a broken bottle!!!

    Bah! Humbug!!!!!!!

Indeed, I just checked out his Wikipedia entry. Seems he had a long hiatus away from work, but eventually resurfaced in some West End shows.

In fact I forgot he existed until posting about that film!

Seems the film can be bought - but only from specalist "rare movie" dealers.

Unsurprisingly, not available in the shops. :D

The only time I've seen it as a flat movie was last December, when I was stuck in hospital all month and missed the annual BFI showing. :( It just wasn't the same...

Especially Goblet of Fire for the Yule Ball scene -- when else did you ever see snow falling inside a ballroom? :) Plus that dress -- Emma Watson in her best jailbait mode. ;)
