I watched Black Eagle a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Must admit I spent most of it trying to work out where the scenes were filmed and if I could spot my place 'cos the film was crap.

You can tell its one of his early films because he "loses".

I liked Universal Soldier and Double Impact. I don't think he's had a hit in years though. He's went the same way as Steven Segal and Dolph Lundgren - doing straight to dvd rubbish.

blodsport!!!! I simply love that film!

I rented it as a kid in 88, and then me and my dad, rented all movied with vandamme that they had (actually we renterd every crap karate/action with karate movie they had, we where really in to them back then).

last movie I saw with him was the one with roger moore, sort of a 19th century bloodsport...not bad, but you knew he was a going downhill

shame he killed a chance of a street fighter franshise, but I guess it was much of producers and writers falt has is was his...

He was originally going to play "The Pedator" in Predator.....

    From IMDB....
"As the original choice to play the role of the alien hunter itself in the movie Predator (1987), he hit a few personal snags. For starters, he was not happy with the fact that his face would not be shown on camera, and that he would be having an uncredited special effects role. He was also not fond of the original monster suit - he frequently passed out due to heat exhaustion. Because he complained so much and was very uncooperative, he was fired from the film. When Stan Winston's Predator design came in, Kevin Peter Hall was chosen to play the title role and filled it perfectly. Supposedly, Van Damme has no regrets on backing out of the Predator project"

    Van Damme.....fail :D

You have to love the cheesy brilliance of Kickboxer though...Van Damme getting his arse kicked by Tong-Po, Tong-Po even rubbing it in during the middle of the fight by saying he raped Van Damme's girlfriend....all of a sudden, the old guy starts chanting 'Not Sue Cow!' or something (it's meant to mean 'White Warrior' apparently) and suddenly Van Damme becomes invincible, gets back up and gives Tong-Po the twatting of his life! Then gives the thumbs up to his brother (who Tong-Po put in a wheelchair), cue end credits and really bad 80's American 'feelgood' soft rock music.

Possibly one of, if not THE greatest movie endings of all time :D

I'm not keen on him, but I thought the one he did with Rosanna Arquette was ok (Nowhere To Run, I think).

Loved his outstanding work in Breakdance, though!!

I bet you all love "Monaco Forever" :D

I liked Timecop because of the time travel/sci-fi element.

I just checked out Monaco Forever on imdb, I didn't know he'd played a gay karate character in that comedy as I've never seen it. A reviewer said it was funny, but Van Damme is only in a very small part of the movie.

But it wasn't that kind of movie.

I agree with this chap, nothing wrong with the more squeezable lady ;)

I like Sudden Death. The movie, that is.

Powers Boothe makes an excellent bad guy, which is vital for movies of this type (think Die Hard, Under Siege etc all had memorable bad guys)

    That's cos' they're shite

I must admit though I thought Cyborg was quality when it came out, perfect mix of sci-fi and cheesy karate action :D

Of course I think I was 11 years old at the time, could be the reason why I thought it was cool.

I'll bet it's crap now though

I do find it quite funny how the titles of his movies have reflected his career lately:-

    In Hell
    Derailed
    Knock Off

As I mentioned, I think Kickboxer's great (but for all the wrong reasons :D ). I also like Bloodsport, Hard Target and have a slight fondness for The Quest (mainly because of Roger Moore's wooden performance  )

Other than those, Van Damme's career is dead to me.
  • edited December 2008
What's annoying about his films, is that he gets beaten up all the way through the movie, until the last 5 minutes, where he suddenly get the guts and energy to fight back.

Anyone else would have been dead long time ago after taking so much beating.

I've been hearing great things about his latest, JCVD. Apparently it's more of a piss-take of his films and career. Sounds like it might be worth a watch.
