Yay! Phew! Massive turnout voted against it. That should put the wind up a few people.

Turkeys rarely vote for Christmas - and people won't vote for extra tax in a recession.

Yeah we voted no to the charge.

I'm glad its a no, its practically cheaper for my wife to drive to Manchester and pay 5 quid for the car park. The bus is crap, sometimes doesnt stop, is often late and costs nearly 5 quid. No parking for the train station at Bury, have to get there at 6am to get a car space.

If buses were say 2 quid people would fill them out, often you see them totally empty going past.

Dont need a congestion charge, need decent priced (and reliable) public transport, thats the problem. If a bus is half price then more people will use it, bus companies will make more

A weekly ticket's only a tenner though. If the buses go where you want then it's not a bad deal.

I'll check that with the missus as that sounds good ! Remember she was buying them in bulk before but it still seemed high priced, perhaps its for certain routes ?

She keeps going on about theres no buses going where she works now in Manchester but it could be just porkies from her ! To be fair countless times i've had to pick her up her bus has just gone past her and upset her and others in the queue by not even stopping

I hope they don't get rid of it - I noticed an immediate improvement in central London on the day it was introduced.

People will probably vote against it though. If you gave people the choice they would vote to abolish income tax, road tax, tv license and VAT as well, then they could all have something genuine to moan about once the government closes down everything.

I get a monthly ticket as i commute into Glasgow for work. It costs forty quid a month. I can use it to go anywhere on Firstbus in Strathclyde which is handy.

Takes me an hour to travel 12 miles into Manchester, a couple of miles inside the M60. But I'm not that arsed about it. Rather that than pay this extra tax. Gives me more time to listen to the Today Program anyway

That'd only take 45 minutes on a bicycle!

Actually, that's the trouble with public transport here: work for me is 12.5 miles. It would take an hour by bus, because the bus takes a long, meandering route, and the last express bus goes home 15 minutes before any employees of any business actually get to go home!

So I can actually beat the bus on my bicycle, even though the terrain is far from flat.

In any case the weather is terrible at the moment so I'm driving, only 20 minutes in the car.
